Works as a wonderful replacement for the stock hard drive on my old Xbox One X that started to fail. Installation was straight forward following instructions readily available online. Just kicking myself for waiting so long to buy and install the drive. Would not hesitate to buy one again.

I have a 1TB I bought many years ago when these first released and it has excelled at everything and still registers through Samsung Software 70% productive. This new one is twice the capacity and actually runs above advertised specs a small percentage. And just like the other, firmware updates are a breeze, and this one shows 100% battle ready. The value now, versus then, is superb; no regrets at this cost whatsoever. I use it as a gaming drive and have turned my 1TB into a development drive. It runs a little warmer than I anticipated, but that’s on me, I bought a pre-built and the cooling is 75% effective at best. Nothing I can do, I will build my own again, this pre-built leaves much to be desired in the cooling department. It hooked up and registered and I had it running in no time. ParrotOS and Windows 11 Pro read it just fine and it runs Forza, Gears 5, No Man’s Sky, Sims 4, and other demanding games with ease. I’m rocking 64GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 7, and a great power supply, so it has everything it needs to push along just fine.Samsung delivered on these drives. I will, in all likelihood, stick with these for my SSD needs. On a side note, the software registered the other 870 with this updated software versus the old version I was running, but it will not, and does not, read the 970 Pro M.2 I’m pushing as my Parrot drive. I don’t know why the software doesn’t work for a similar device, yes the form factor is different, but having to install two versions of software that are near identical annoys me.If you want consistent speed, reliability, chill temps, and peace of mind on your investment, Samsung gives all of that here. Perfection. Outright.

I put this item in a clients computer to replace their old, failing ssd. The SSD is very fast, and has plenty of storage for the average individual. I chose this item for the client because for the price, this SSD is very reliable and I can attest to their durability over years of usage. The SSD connects via SATA. The client is very happy and has had no further issues with their computer while playing games or doing other things since installation of this drive. The price is very good for what you get.

Perfect fit. Very simple to swap out for the old hard drive. Well written, easy to understand instructions and an excellent cloning app make drive swap simple and fast. Computer booted perfectly first time after the clone and swap.My old 2010 Intel Core I7 Windows 7 laptop now boots in seconds, runs a LOT faster, and uses a lot less power – runs maybe 2x as long on battery,For about $100, this was way cheaper than a new laptop and a huge boost in performance! This is one of the more durable solid state drives (rated for more write cycles) from a brand name I trust.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

*Update after 3 months of extensive use* Product is still running optimally as stated in item description! As far as the packaging goes it came as the SSD box with no extra cushion or any other shipping box or bag, so be careful about that.Overall the product does exactly as says, I did this for the first time for my gaming PC and it was super easy literally plug and play, and then format it in!

I replaced the SAMSUNG 128 GB SSD OS drive with this one since it was almost at capacity which was affecting performance! Excellent product (I have used SAMSUNG SSDs before with excellent results). The SAMSUNG software made it easy to clone the boot drive and in a few minutes and I was up and running again, this time with better performance and noticeably faster. I trust SAMSUNG SSDs and definitely recommend them. We don’t use our computers to play video games. This machine is a Windows machine which I built for my wife 10 years ago using a Cooler Master tower enclosure. It has a 6-core AMD processor, 32 GB RAM and an upgraded video card. I have a 27″ iMac and a Mac mini (Intel) and I have installed a flight simulator on my iMac and my wife does do the UK Daily Telegraph crossword puzzle every day.I think we should both be good for a while now.

I purchased the 500GB and 1TB 870 EVO SSD. The Samsung Magician software wouldn’t find the new drive in the Data Migration section, even though both source and target drives appeared at the top. I called Samsung’s tech support, and they recommended just downloading the Data Migration software by itself. I did that and was able to start the cloning process. At about 80% I got an error message, “The Data Migration function has been interrupted for an unknown reason”. I called tech support again, and we discussed what might be causing the issue. I asked if Malwarebytes and/or Windows security might be causing the software to stop. He suggested stopping both, which I did, and the cloning process completed. I am happy with Samsung’s tech support! I didn’t have to wait long to speak to someone, and the Tech was very helpful. I replaced the old drive in 2 different HP laptops that had Western Digital drives. What a difference in speed! The whole process was kind of a pain, but in the end was well worth it.

These days, M2 is where it is at if you have the support for it, but for those older motherboards that do not have an M2 slot or won’t work with an add-on M2 card, this is the next best thing. Not nearly as fast as the M2 drives, but still much faster than a spinning drive. Works the same as a traditional spinning drive, now replacing traditional spinning drives as the common sense baseline storage. Connects up via a sata cable. and will work without much fuss for a motherboard that supports SATA hard drives. The actual throughput you get depends on which level Sata interface your motherboard supports, typical is ~600MB/s .

I wanted to make a poor-guy’s NAS. Got StarTech USB-to-SATA cable, attached this to my ASUS router, and voila, I have my NAS with all my data available, family photos and videos etc.Samsung drives are notoriously very power efficient. It comes handy for my application, as all power comes via USB3, and the adapter can get really hot with other (less efficient) drives. As for speeds and reliability – it’s been good, NAS cannot reach higher than 100MB/s anyway over my 1Gbps ethernet, even with Jumbo Frames.Should you buy it? Maybe. But those M2 drives became much cheaper now, and you can get an enclosure for $20, so think for yourself.

I put five of these in our Synology 1515+ music server replacing the old Iron Wolf spindle hard drives. The old drives were fine, just noisy and hot.We have a home theater and when the sound level dropped to fainter background noises, all we could hear was the clicking of the read/write heads. SSDs were the solution and these work just fine.We store our CDs, downloaded high-res music, and 4K Bluerays on this server so these drives get a lot of exercise every day. These drives work perfect for our needs being totally quiet and run much cooler. They are expensive but in our case SSDs were the solution and Samsung makes good drives.

I was very impressed with my cloning process from hard drive to Samsung ssd drive 1tb. The clone process took less than 30 minutes. I download two Samsung products, “Data Migration Setup” and “Magician Installer”. The data migration software was to the point, source drive, destination drive and start button. I did Not initialize the ssd drive. This is my 3rd ssd clone. 1st, three years ago using Western Digital ssd. It worked but it was slow and a lot of work. 2nd, last week with Western Digital ssd. I wasted many hours, the clone did not work. 3rd, today took me about an hour. I am very impressed. If you are using desktop. you might was to purchase a 3.5″ to 2.5″ adapter.

SATA based SSDs have given way to their faster, more feature-rich M.2 NVMe counterparts in new systems but for desktops and laptops “of a certain age” your only option is the older technology. If you happen to be running your system OS from a spinning disk, there has never been a better time to switch and the SATA based 870 EVO should be on your very short list. The SATA interface is largely the limiting factor these days so you won’t find much of a performance difference amongst the top brands but Samsung has consistently delivered in the line.Regarding cloning software, In some instances, you may have trouble with Samsung’s software when using some external SATA to USB converters because they don’t pass on the brand of the drive. That causes an issue because the software needs to recognize at least one Samsung drive for the software to run. This is not a limitation of other free and retail cloning packages however. Finally, the Samsung Magician utility isn’t required for the drive to operate but it is a useful tool to monitor the health of your drive, apply firmware updates etc.Hard to go wrong with this drive; it just works.

SSD. This SSD has consistently served as a dependable SWAP drive for critical applications in my small business. While it may not have an enterprise rating or the same level of capabilities, it is considerably more affordable. If you are an individual or small business in need of a reliable drive, this option is definitely worth considering. However, it would be advisable to purchase one of the larger configurations, as the 500GB model could be limiting if you intend to use it for personal or game storage. In most cases, a SATA SSD will suffice and may even perform comparably to NVMe storage solutions. Unless your workload involves frequent large file transfers or modern AAA games with direct storage support, a cost-effective SATA based drive like this could be an excellent way to save money on a new build and invest in a better CPU or video card.

now fixed. I have this dell 2 in one display/computer that for the past half a year has been supppeer slow in all aspects. Start up would take 4 minutes, to open programs even as simple as chrome would take 4 minutes, etc. I spent a while trying to play with defragmentation and getting the old drive to work again like it used to, but with no success. With that being said, when I ended up purchasing this SSD and popping it in the computer, it was as if the problem magically disappeared. The “Disk usage” was back down to normal levels from the prior 100%, and the computer now work’s actually faster then when I first got it! Great SSD if your in the market.

y to install in my laptop.I used “AOMEI Backupper” (freeware) to transfer almost a full terabyte of existing data on my old drive to this new 2TB drive. DON’T use Windows Explorer. It is not up to the task. Windows would have taken days to do this and you would have had to manually move a lot of folders because Explorer fails at it. AOMEI took less than two hours to copy everything and not once asked for help or couldn’t move a folder because it was too big. Once I installed this new drive it shows up with a different drive letter and only the former drive’s storage space size. No worries. Right click the Start menu, click “Disk Management”. You’ll see your new disk. Right click on it to “Extend the Volume” and just click through and it will increase the volume to the correct size. Next right click on your new disk and select “Drive Letter and Paths” and there you will be able to assign the old drive letter to the new drive. Don’t worry about the warnings because you are setting everything back the way it should be. I thought this info would help those not real familiar with upgrading drives. Love this Samsung drive!

peed + no faults + good price = happy camper. In one of my old Windows dinosaur rigs (built in 2012 for W8 Pro, upgraded to W10 Pro), I had been using a Vertex 4 256GB SSD for the OS and the more important programs. As Windows users all know and don’t love, it has an ever increasing hunger for more space more space MORE SPACE, and I had to keep removing programs from the drive just to accommodate the OS’s ever expanding waistline (bloat), so I finally had to buy a larger drive just to run the same programs I wanted to host on an SSD instead of platter drives.Samsung is apparently the cat’s meow in the SSD world nowadays, so I bought this one in October 2022.According to Samsung’s Magician software, I have so far written 2.1TB to the drive. S.M.A.R.T. says it’s still in good health, no errors so far and the speed is fine for my use with this older rig, so I don’t care to benchmark it.I paid $90 for this model last October, which was a good price at the time. It’s now just $65 and I would have no qualms about scooping it up for that price, if I needed another one.

s One. I have a 13 year old HP slimline desktop computer that had the original hard disk drive in it that was starting to fail. So I looked at professional reviews from different web sites and this one scored at the top of the list for many of them, so I decided to give it a try. (I had to also buy a tray so that it would mount in place of the 3.5″ spinning drive that was failing.) I backed up my data onto a USB drive, created a bootable Windows 10 installation USB drive from the Microsoft web site using my work computer, install the new drive, and 15 minutes later it was done! I didn’t bother with any of the software tools Samsung offers, so I can’t comment on them. I had my data backed up, so I wanted to start fresh. This drive is amazingly fast compared to what I’m use to. The computer is now working better, faster, and quieter than it ever has. I was so happy with this one that I bought another for my mom’s computer, as it’s 10 years old and slowing down too, and it works so much better now as well.I can’t speak to the longevity of this drive yet, but I highly recommend it.

SD but Samsung’s warranty is weak. I replaced the HDD in an HP computer. It was an amazing boost in performance. No problem at there. The install was simple. I have done the same with other computers. It is now about a week less than 2 years past installation. Samsung Magician is now reporting 2 ECC critical errors. I called Samsung. It took longer going through their menu ladder that it took with the service rep. He asked where I bought it. When I said Amazon, he ask if I lived in Texas to which I confirmed my address. He said I would receive an email with info about how to return the drive. Unfortunately they do not cross ship. So I would be without the drive until they receive it (their UPS label), “attempt repairs”, and then send a replacement. It has a 5 year warranty but after 90 days, they will replace with a refurbished unit. This isn’t really helpful.I order a new one from Amazon that will arrive tomorrow. I will swap it in then send the old one to Samsung, mostly for grins. I am not willing to have a computer down for an unknow amount of time for an $80 part that is being replaced with a refurbished old part. I may add the old one back as a secondary drive or maybe mirror them. I am not unhappy with my purchase, just disappointed.

resolved. 1) My modern setup with 870 EVO boot drive was refusing to format a HDD larger than 2TB.2) I looked for answers, couldn’t find solutions.3) Magician insisted there were bad LBAs on the boot drive, and couldn’t repair it4) Yet the drive was functioning normally in all other respects – except, I later found out I couldn’t clone it. No settings in the excellent cloning program Casper made a difference.5) In the end, I had to rebuild a new boot drive, using an old clone.6) At that point, I could format the failing SSD, to see if it made a difference for Magician. No, it didn’t.7) So I shipped it to Samsung repair center, following their procedures.8) I just received a new 870Take out observations:1) The warranty offers zero help to salvage a drive.2) Sending a hard drive for repairs means you’re possibly sending personal information! Remember Hunter Biden!3) Determined people can even retrieve data from a reformatted drive. However, reformatting adds a layer of difficulty4) It makes sense to always install operating (boot) systems on a separate HD, and keep all data on other drives. It also makes sense to regularly clone the boot drive.5) People tend to back up data files, and data drives can easily be rebuilt in case of catastrophe. I would personally not send a data drive for repairs to people I don’t know personally. I’d rebuild a new drive and eat up the loss of the bad drive.6) Samsung says they try to repair, and if they can’t, they’ll send an equivalent used drive – or a new drive – as they did to me7) They tell you up front that all information on the drive is likely to be destroyed8) Email communication with Samsung has a 14 to 21 day lag. You write a note, you get a response in about twenty days.9) Samsung paid for shipping both ways.10) All responses were almost robotically professional

year old desktop. Updated after a few weeks of use. This thing is WELL worth the price, if your computer is loud (any audible sounds coming out really) and old, or if you have a HHD, just upgrade to this and be amazed. My computer went from noisy and slow to booting up almost instantly and making near 0 noise. I didn’t even notice really but now I can’t go back. My 8 (almost 9) year old desktop runs as good as new, even better actually, and now I probably won’t have to upgrade for at least another year or more.So far so good. I have an 8 year old desktop. It had a 2tb hhd installed. But lately it was slowing down. So I upgraded my ram and that helped a bit but things were still slow. After installing this, things are way faster and smoother. It only took 20 minutes to transfer my files from my old hhd to this. 83 gigs of data. I had to buy the sata/usb connector to make it easier but that only cost $13. I didn’t realize how LOUD my old hhd was until installing this. Now my computer starts faster, loads everything faster and is much much quieter. Well worth the price.

ung Magician worked fine migrating my data. The drive works well. These drives need to be initialized before use. This process can easily be searched. In this case, I was upgrading from a 1Tb M.2 to this 2Tb SATA III drive. Typically, I would use a drive cloner since the process is fast, and seamless. I decided to see if people’s complaints about the Samsung Magician software were valid. I had no problem with the software. I downloaded it, and once it was open, followed the on screen instructions. They very specifically state to have no other programs running. I also disconnected from the Internet in order to prevent push notifications. My main thought is how slow the process is. Transferring about 900Gb to the drive via a USB 3 enclosure took almost three hours at about 100Mbps. Once the copy process was completed, the computer automatically shut down. I removed the old disk and installed the new one. I turned the computer on and didn’t even have to enter the BIOS. This was surprising since I went from M.2 to SATA III. Windows loaded normally, and my activation software didn’t require reactivation which is why I normally clone the drive. The only program that detected a new configuration was my NAS backup program making me have to plug the laptop to the NAS via Ethernet in order to transfer the entire drive at a reasonable speed.Installing a new HDD is not an easy process. It is okay to get help if you aren’t comfortable opening your case. Migrating data from one disk to another is also challenging. Do your research before you decide to attempt this. If you choose to proceed, remember that your data is more valuable than a less expensive drive. With SSDs, stick with Samsung, Western Digital, and Crucial. The small premium is far more valuable than dealing with data loss.

slx this will work!. I installed this after my 2tb HDD died. All you have to do after installing is partition the SSD. This thing installed a video game of 56gb in less than 6 minutes. It’s way better than any HDD. Origin department said not to get it and just by another HDD but I got it anyway and it’s sturdy. The HDD is no longer sold on the market… well the brand I had. This is a good upgrade I will buy an m2 card next with 2tb and install it as well in about 2 months. You will not be disappointed getting this product. Samsung is the way to go.

ung ssd. So my 256gb adata OS ssd ran out of room, shocking i know. I was hoping to just use it for the OS, however not every application shares my plans. So it ran out of room, finding a software to image and copy the ssd was fruitless, with a few options explored – even went so far as to try macrium reflect which sadly even couldn’t clone the drive. But Samsung’s data migration software only likes samsung destination drives, so i ended up spending a little more on the drive, but it works better than a kingston that doesn’t have the image installed. plus i can be confident this one should be more reliable.

I purchased this to update a good running Windows 10 PC with upgraded RAM and a relatively fast quad-core processor being held back by the HDD. Any time a program was opened there was a delay due to the HDD. Windows “task manager” illustrates the HDD vs SSD for a typical large program. The job was comically easy and the results are a drive that now reads 5-6x and writes 7-8x faster than the HDD (per the Samsung software metrics) with no observed downside (other than the cost and a couple of hours of my time).I’m not a computer tech and have no special skills or equipment. Here’s how I did it.1. PrepareKnow how to open a PC and work in it safely. Know the basics. The drive will need power via a power cable and signal to the main board via a SATA cable. I used the power and SATA cables from the original drive, and removed the HDD to “archive” in case of future failure / retrofit (I do not need a 2nd drive for storage). Decide how you intend to mount a smaller 2.5″ drive in place of a 3.5″ original (buy an adapter). Easiest way I found to clone the drive is to buy an aftermarket USB to SATA drive “adapter” cable. This allows the old drive to stay installed as-is while connecting the new SSD via USB to do the drive clone. Know what kind of USB ports your machine has. Mine has USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 to SATA cable is usually not backward compatible.2. Clone the driveDownload and install the (free) Samsung “Data Migration” software from their website. Make sure when you open this software nothing else is running, and you don’t run anything else while it is running. Connect the USB to SATA cable to the SSD and then plug it into the PCs USB port. The software should detect it. If it does not I have no idea what you would do. Then it’s as simple as picking the source drive, picking the new SSD as the destination drive, and clicking OK. This cloning process can take 4-5 hours easily on even a moderately large drive (1TB). Don’t panic, just let it run. At points it may appear to have not started or not finished but it is likely working fine. At the end, the PC will shut down.3. Install the driveWith the power off and your hands grounded, open the case and unplug both the power and SATA cables from the old drive. Remove the old drive. Physically mount the new drive. Connect both the power and SATA cables to the new SSD. Power the machine back up.4. Check functionIf you did it correctly, the PC should boot back up, and a lot faster than before. Download and install the (free) Samsung “Magician” software from their website. This has all sorts of neat diagnostic tests to show speed, update firmware, etc.Rejoice in spending a little bit of money to get a huge performance increase and not needing to go out and buy a new computer.**UPDATE**I performed the same upgrade on an older but still very good laptop computer than has very similar issues and results. It was even easier than the desktop PC as the original 2.5″ HDD was the exact same physical size. I couldn’t be happier with the performance and ease of this upgrade. The computer boots up in seconds. It runs quietly and cool. Every function works perfectly and noticeably (a lot) faster. This appears to be the best performance upgrade you can give an older computer with an OE HDD.
