I gave away my last one so I needed another. But, this time, I upgraded to this model, with a flashlight! How practical. Yes, it works great. Easy to use. Allows me to feel more secure when swapping out ceiling lights.

  4. Rod

It’s sturdy enough to handle rough handling. Only problem is sometimes the indications and warnings are confusing, may just be too sensitive. Best with a volt meter to be sure.

I’ve recently added the Klein Tools NCVT3P Dual Range Non-Contact Voltage Tester to my toolkit, and it’s quickly become an indispensable tool for electrical work. Here’s why it earns top marks:**Dual Range Detection:** One of the standout features is its ability to detect voltage in two ranges: 12-100V AC and 100-1000V AC. This dual functionality makes it versatile for both low and high voltage applications, covering a wide array of electrical tasks from household wiring to industrial settings.**Ease of Use:** The NCVT3P is incredibly user-friendly. With its pen-like design, it’s easy to hold and maneuver, even in tight spaces. The tester is activated by simply pressing the button, and it automatically powers off after 30 seconds of inactivity, saving battery life.**Indicators:** This tool doesn’t just beep; it provides multiple feedback methods. An audible alarm, a flashing LED light, and even a built-in flashlight ensure you’re alerted to voltage in any lighting condition. The flashlight is particularly handy in dark or poorly lit work environments.**Safety:** Safety is paramount in electrical work, and the NCVT3P doesn’t disappoint. It’s designed to detect live wires without direct contact, reducing the risk of electrical shock. The tester also includes a low battery indicator, ensuring you’re never caught off-guard with a dead tool.**Durability:** Klein Tools is known for quality, and this tester is no exception. It’s built to withstand the rigors of job sites with a robust construction that feels solid in hand. The inclusion of a pocket clip adds convenience, keeping the tester within easy reach.**Value:** While it might be a bit pricier than some basic voltage testers, the added features like the flashlight, dual range, and reliable build quality justify the cost. It’s an investment in safety and efficiency, which pays off in the long run.**Portability:** The compact size and pocket clip make it highly portable. Whether you’re climbing a ladder or working in a cramped space, this tool stays with you, ready for use.**Conclusion:** The Klein Tools NCVT3P Dual Range Non-Contact Voltage Tester is a must-have for any electrician, DIY enthusiast, or anyone dealing with electrical systems. Its combination of functionality, safety features, and build quality make it a top choice. If you’re looking for a reliable, versatile, and safe voltage tester, this is it. Highly recommended for both professionals and hobbyists who value precision and safety in their electrical work.

I bought these for doing some electrical work. They are easy to use and worked great.

  7. NCW

Can’t compare this to any others however it’s worked perfectly so far at detecting line voltage both at high and low levels. The light is a nice touch since it’s frequently used in dark spots with circuits off, but you’ll need other illumination. I’m just a DIYer with enough experience to know my limits on household electrical jobs but I wouldn’t touch any of them w/o a reliable, name-brand voltage detector

I’m 5 months into this tester. The voltage reading is accurate 97% of the time. I like how small and simple it is compared to other tick testers and it fits nicely in my tool belt. However it may not give you accurate readings when testing round cords or factory twisted 3 wire romex. overall 10/10

  15. Mike Grusin

It was not the cheapest option but I’m glad I got this model. The functionality is well thought out; all the features you need, nothing you don’t, and easy to use. I appreciate that it’s designed so there’s always an illuminated LED so you know that it’s functioning. The flashlight is a nice touch, exactly where and when you need it. Nice job Klein!

Works well. Loud beeping sound and light helps identify active electrical connection.

Makes it easy to tell the power is off to the working area eliminating risk of shock or worse. Very convenient and the front light is an added bonus, so you can see what you are working on.

This is a quality product and if doing any electrical work, a must have. It’s super small and much easier than bringing out a multi meter when you need to see if a wire is hot.Pros:This meter can test all the way down to low voltages so it works with landscape lighting and other low voltage wires. It’s very small and the battery life is goodVery easy to useBeen dropped a couple times and still works flawlessly

I had the plainest version of this that I lost somewhere. I used it regularly and it worked great, so I decided to get this deluxe version, for only $10 more. The little flashlight is very handy, and the low voltage range means I can use it on landscape lighting and irrigation situations too. Every handy person should have one of these and an outlet tester in their tool bag!

I wanted to do some switch changes and light fixture updates in my house and came across this product after seeing a home inspector use one. I usually make a pros and cons list for these types of things, but couldn’t come up with any cons. It’s easy to use, accurate, battery lasts forever, and the little light on it is surprisingly convenient. If you are doing any electrical work, please save yourself from guessing about live circuits and get one of these purely for the safety benefits. I have recommended to many friends who recently became homeowners.

This NCVT does pretty much what the others do: switch it on, bring it close to a circuit and if the circuit is energized, unit beeps. What sets this one apart is the great little flashlight.

I use a lot of these types of indicators and this Klein NCV has the same issue that all of the others have… the probe end is too short. These are used a lot by the inspection business and they are invaluable. The downfall is that the probe end being too short, it is not always usable for 250V plugs like for Dryers or Ovens. I have had to result to using a dummy plug to put into the receptacle and then use this NCV to check each hot leg of the dummy plug cord to look for voltage. IF the end were longer, it would go deep enough into the receptacle to be able to pick up indication that the receptacle is hot. That being said, the tester does exactly what it says it can and it is lightweight for sure. I just think that the average pirce of about 20 dollars US is a bit high for what is provided. The flashlight is minimal for sure but may help in a pinch to not require a flashlight in the other hand too.
