Despite what the Starlink app says about 3rd party mesh networks, you CAN continue to use your Starlink Gen 3 router as your main router (without bypass needed) and use this Deco mesh network to extend your wifi signal. Very easy set up: hardwire 1 of the Deco to the 1 of the ethernet ports on Starlink Gen 3 router, power on and follow set up instructions on app. I then easily linked 2 more Deco around the house and our wifi was instantly stronger and we are now able to stream movies on the tv at the far end of the living room. I am also still using the other ethernet port on the router for my computer without diminished speed.The other possible option was to purchase a second Starlink Gen 3 router to act as a mesh to the first for $250, so about the same price as the Deco, but I was hesitant to get another one because the main one has a relatively low range compared to other routers I have used in the same location on my previous network.I hope this saves someone all the time I lost searching for this information!

Over 9k reviews so…I’ll keep mine brief.Pretty easy install.Opened box > downloaded app> created login> shut down modem and old router> wired Deco to modem>powered everything on.App walks you through everything and adding additional Deco units.I work from home on the evenings and weekends and my office is in the basement far from the wireless router. While my speed of 100-150mbps isn’t horrible, I use multiple screens and apps and one data intensive app for work.But I do pay for more…so why not get what you’re paying for from your ISP!Main router that connects directly to modem (living room) was giving me 600mbps+ if I’m in the room or somewhere on 1st floor.That’s about 2 to 3x what my previous router was providing. Now before hooking up 2 other units I was a bit discouraged because upstairs I was getting 80mbps in the farthest room and about 40 in the basement.I connected the 2nd mesh unit (wireless) in that far room and speeds jumped to 200 to 300mbps for 2nd floor ( high 300s in room above living room).I went to the basement for moment of truth…connected the 3rd mesh unit in my office (wireless) and speed jumped to 200s.I did and have been tinkering with settings. I assigned my work laptop in my office to only be on 5g and have priority. After that my speed jumped to 300mbps average.And I can now jump around from applications and run programs within my work software much faster.Really a big difference!I’ll still tinkering with settings though as it appears my upload speed is capped at 20-25mbps.App is user friendly.Oh…one interesting thing. My signal throughout the house is much stronger everywhere (of course) but outside I would lose signal outside my garage…now I have about 3 wifi bars. I do listen to music while mowing and it’s nice to use wifi instead of data.Highly recommend especially at this price point. Amazon also has it cheaper than everywhere I could find it…and with one day delivery ( except it did end up taking 2 days).

I got these to replace an AX11000 gaming router. My previous router was mainly used along with powerline adapters to get a hard-wired connection to a NAS server. We moved not too long ago and the new house wouldn’t play nice with the Powerlines, so I purchase a range extender which had an ethernet port instead of the powerlines. It has worked OK, but not great, so I purchased these in hopes I could get better performance.I was initially not impressed because my devices were having trouble connecting. They kept flipping between nodes. My phone was the worst… and also the device that I needed in order to manipulate the settings. I found where I can lock a device to a specific node, which helped in a lot of cases.After a couple weeks, connections and really strong. I guess the “AI” had to determine the best way to handle the signal strengths and it took it a few days.The server (and also my office PC) has had a very stable connection via ethernet from one of the nodes since I set everything up.The main drawback on these for me is that in order to edit the router’s settings, you HAVE to use the mobile app. You can access SOME settings through a browser on your PC, but things like port forwarding, parental controls, and DHCP settings all have to be done through the app. This got the “User Interface” rating knocked to a 4 star. If I could access all settings from the app AND a direct IP from a browser, it would have been 5.Speed is great. I was having issues with my signal timing out with my previous router and have not seen that happen at all since switching to these.Very happy with them. I highly recommend. I would Suggest the WiFi6E versions if your budget affords it. My budget did not, so I went with the WiFi6, and I don’t regret it at all.

I had spotting wifi in my house, especially no signal in the basement. Called Internet company to add another wifi modem and they said it would require paying for two separate internet accounts, no thank you, but the tech suggested a mesh system. I have tried the plug in extenders and they just don’t do the job. Had this Deco mesh installed for a month and could not be happier, I got three and have full bars on all three with great signal, Office, Living and yes full strength in the basement. Very easy to install and the mobile app is great showing all connected devices and network performance. Key note, you must disable your current Wifi modem signal after connection. This is important as you need the wifi to set up but once the deco is running, shut of the modem wifi so it does not compete with your signal. Definitely recommend, and I am not a tech person and it ws easy

I had to set up this new mesh system because my ISP connectivity in my 2 internal wifi networks was starting to suck badly in terms of coverage and speed. I bought this based on Amazon and third party reviews. I have a computer based audio music storage device and a matched music server from a high end audio company, a leader in the technology. Its how I listen to music now in terms of source. I never set up a regular wifi network before let alone mesh, so I contacted TP-Links customer service support. The first day was decent support but we couldn’t or the service tech couldn’t get the connectivity to recognize my 2 audio devices, which is why I upgraded to mesh in the first place. On day 2 call, I was lucky enough to get a fellow named Von. He stuck it out with me for almost 2 hours trying different ways of getting connectivity to my audio devices. In the end he figured it out and now we are golden with the new mesh system. TP-Links CS, if you are lucky and get someone like Von, is awesome. I wish I had gotten him the first day tho. Also, the wait time to get a live agent was painfully long, over 30 minutes on hold, which sucks and TP-Links should attend to that issue. But they are to be commended for having a guy like Von on their team – he should be running their Customer Service Department as far as I am concerned.

I spent forever (14+ days) trying to get Google support to help me setup their nest wifi hardware with my native IPV6 ISP. No luck. I bought a pack of indoor and outdoor TP Link Deco units and everything was working within 1hr, not a single issue. I am thrilled with the range, ports, setup process, and app features. Device isolation, guest and IoT networks, 2gh, 5ghz, 6ghz…wow. Nailed it TP Link. Great job. This unit in particular lives under my deck. It’s relatively sheltered from weather but provides coverage for my deck + yard. It’s less powerful / less range than the comparable indoor units but placing the unit outside of the home gets signal about 50 meters out + or -…your mileage may vary.

I live in a rural area and so have had a lot of issues with internet connectivity. Recently I got a Starlink connection and so now I’ve got fairly reliable speeds both up and down. The issue I had then was the ability to use wifi in different parts of the house and also in some areas of my property that are over 200 yards from the house.I looked at a lot of different products and reviews and when these came on sale, I grabbed them. It was relatively easy to set up. I just turned my Starlink router into a switch and then used one of these as my main router.Once that was set up, I then connected the two other ones to the primary and it’s all set. They worked so well that I decided to get a fourth one to put in one of the barns so that I’ve now got reliable wifi out in the back of the property. I put ine of these guys in line of sight to the nearest barn and it hooked up with no problem. Now I’ve got strong wifi signals in both barns.The software is great, and it gave to an IoT network so I can hook the cameras and other devices to that without fear of them becoming a gateway into my home network. I’ve been using them for several months now and am very happy with both the devices and the software. It also gave me wifi 6, which far exceeds my bandwidth, but hopefully Starlink will be increasing the bandwidth in the near future and when they do, I’m ready.

Had trouble with a lesser model in ’21 and returned it, now 2 years later I still needed to upgrade my wifi, the price was good, and after reading reviews I decided to give it another try with this model. I started the install after taking out my old gaming router and being sure my modem has wireless radios off ( Verizon) Started the install using only one deco, got interrupted for about 20 minutes ( yeah, isn’t it just like that ) anyway I get back to the install and it fails. I decided to start from scratch and shut it all down, got a cup of tea, waited for 15 minutes and started over. Wired the deco to my modem, powered them both on and wham, it’s up and running, asks me questions give it answers and I have my basic system back, set up the 2 extra decos to make the mesh, it recognizes them 1 at a time and it’s done. Over the next couple hours it rerouted some of my sart devices to the closest deco and all is fine. Next morning check it and it tells me I need to upgrade the app. I do it and we are still good,, then it tells me to update the deco units and it is smooth as silk, I have ethernet wired in the house so I wired the satellite decos to get the best proformance and after a few minutes it automatically detected the cable connection freeing up some bandwidth. A big difference from the older unit from 2 years ago. It dies what it is supposed to do, not the latest tech but fir my needs it’s great, finally I can move around the house without interruptions, hopeing it lasts and if I need to upgrade in the future to a wifi 7 system I will look at them first

I’m an IT consultant who works with both businesses and home users, and I install only TP-Link Deco mesh wi-fi kits for my home customers. (These are NOT appropriate for businesses. Business customers are better off with a fully featured managed wi-fi solution. The most affordable of those are TP-Link Omada and Ubiquiti UniFi.) The reason for my preference can be stated in one word: reliability.My experience with TP-Link Deco kits is that they don’t win benchmark competitions. Industry reviewers will tell you that competing kits from eero, Velop (Linksys) and, especially, Orbi (Netgear) beat Deco hands-down in their tests. But industry reviewers don’t live with the products they test, at least not for longer than it takes to run their tests. My clients do have to live with the products I recommend, and their homes tend not to resemble wi-fi reviewers’ test venues. My clients have real homes, often homes that were built over 40 years ago, and a lot of those homes have interior features that post challenges for whole-home wi-fi.I’ve only installed mesh wi-fi kits in a few homes that were new enough to have minimal obstacles to wi-fi. In those homes, eero kits worked well, and I’m sure Orbi or Velop would have worked just as well. But in the majority of homes where I’ve installed whole-home wi-fi, sub-optimal interior layouts and materials other than drywall interfered with signal strength. In those homes, it typically took multiple attempts to set up wireless access points from other mesh kit makers, and it wasn’t unusual for access points to start losing contact with the mesh even before I’d finished setting the mesh up. TP-Link Deco kits, including the Deco X55, still set up just the way the app directs you. And once Deco is set up, it tends to say up and running until the power fails.Another advantage to Deco kits: With most other brands of mesh kits, the mesh only functions if you leave the system in default mode, which is to have the first access point double as a router. If you change their operating mode to Access Points Only, they lose the most important mesh feature, which is to allow access points to connect to the access point with the strongest signal and direct traffic according to a lowest-cost algorithm. In other words, they cease to operate as a mesh, and instead operate as a star or “hub-and-spoke” network, in which each access point needs to communicate directly with the access point connected to the Internet source. Not so with Deco kits. The only features that Deco kits lose if you run them in Access Points Only mode are features that are only appropriate for a router, such as being the DHCP server and providing DNS. Deco kits that include Powerline Networking as a backhaul option also lose their Powerline capabilities if you run them in Access Points Only mode, but the Deco X55 does not have that feature.The Deco X55 adds a new twist: The app directs you through setting up the first access point. The remaining access points in the kit will simply connect themselves to the mesh if you just plug them in and leave them on for a few minutes. After they show up in the app, you can tap into them and give them descriptive names.The TP-Link Deco X55 is now the whole-home wi-fi kit I install most often for my home customers. They love its resilience and reliability, and I love happy customers.

I purchased this unit as a substitute for my previous Decos that were very slow. After upgrading my operating system to 1 gig the other Decos were deficient and had numerous oroblems, such as the inability to connect.However, throughout the entire process, the TP-LINK staff provided exceptional support, were very responsive to my emails. including trouble shooting over the phone, and ultimately great support in the replacement process for the two Decos. They honored their 2-year warranty and covered all shipping and replacement costs.However, due to delays in the replacement. I opted to acquire another unit while waiting for the new replacement ones to arrive. This unit compensates for the other two defective ones. It worked perfectly from the start, fast speed up to 1000 mbps, broad coverage throughout my home, and was very easy to set up this one is a keeper. Thank you, Tp-Link team!The only thing I didn’t like about the process was their online chat. That thing is a total waste of time and all it did was give you useless links. It has zero troubleshooting capabilities. If you need help call them. Nothing can replace a human no matter how they program it.

Bought and Install product June 21, 2023Worked great and well satisfied with coverage.Recently upgraded my cable receivers and cable modem this past week. Cable, Internet (directly connected/non-wifi) telephone all worked great , had an issue with Deco X55. Called tech support and got a Foreign Based tech support person. She could hardly speak English….I couldn’t understand her, asked where she was based… no reply or at least I couldn’t understand what she was saying! I asked for an English based speaker like in the US. I think she stated there is none! I asked for someone that can speak English, was told that someone will call back in 1 to 2 hours.I did receive a call within that time frame and connected to an equally English challenged tech support person. Could barely understand him, had to get my wife involved as an interpreter (another ear to hear whatever he was saying), my wife was equally puzzled with his alleged English speaking skills. He had me shutting down, disconnecting my cable service, shutting down my router (Deco), changing this and that remove that or this . After 45 minutes he asked me to bypass the router and connect directly to the modem in which it now appeared that my internet was disconnected. With that he hung up.I then call the cable and internet carrier and they advised me that my internet was deactivated recently meaning within the last couple of hours and they then activated the internet and I was back up and running.I ran on the Ethernet and My cellular phone for several days thereafter. Today I decided to try to connect the Deco X55. I went through the set up features of the Deco Phone App and within several minutes I’m back up and running.I sure these people are cracker jacks with their products with whomever their speaking to in their own language.

This Deco X55 ( 3-unit) is good. I have a 2-storied house and the main router has to be at one corner, on 1st floor of the house. My internet is 300 Mbps. The previous TP Link Powerline wifi extenders were weak for some rooms and the best I could get was 40 Mbps at the 2nd floor corner opposite the main router.I got tired of paying for 300 Mbps and only got 40 Mbps.That’s the reason for getting this Deco X55 3-unit package.Set up process is not too intuitive but not difficult either. During setup, I changed my mind about the SSID’s name so instead of going back a step or 2, I had to start over from the beginning.Adding a 2nd and 3rd Deco X55 was quite easy bc the units self discovered after 3 minutes.Performance: This Deco X55 gives me strong signal throughout the hose.Even at the farthest corner from the main router, I am getting 240 Mbps. The nearer rooms all get 300 Mbps.So far, after 5 days of usage, I haven’t had any dropped connection.I had a 10-minute internet outage (from the Internet provider’s end) and the Deco X55 was able to resume without hiccup and delivered maximum speed as expected.Summary: I am satisfied with the Deco X55’s performance because it delivers exactly what I need without any hiccup.Crossing my fingers that this excellence will continue for years and years.

My office is nestled on the second floor, in a corner where my previous setup struggled, delivering only 5 Mbps of download speed. This was because my modem was connected to the sole functional coax cable on the first floor. I was faced with a choice: either pay around $100 for a technician to activate the upstairs coax cable in the spare bedroom or invest slightly more in a mesh network that could blanket my entire home with strong Wi-Fi. The decision was clear and easy to make.First and foremost, the setup of the TP-Link Deco Mesh System was astonishingly simple. Within minutes, I had the entire system up and running, thanks to the intuitive and user-friendly app. I love the app’s design—it’s not just functional but also visually pleasing, offering a seamless setup experience.Initially, I had some reservations. I purchased three Deco units: one to serve as the main router and the other two as satellite nodes. At first, both of my additional nodes connected directly to the main router. This setup resulted in my office Deco showing only two Wi-Fi bars instead of three. But after a bit of troubleshooting, I discovered a neat feature within the app: the ability to configure one Deco unit to connect to another, thereby creating a daisy chain of connections instead of each satellite linking directly to the primary router.The results? Outstanding. I now enjoy a robust 180 Mbps in my office. Closer to the main router, I am clocking speeds exceeding 250 Mbps, which is precisely the bandwidth I’m subscribed to. I am absolutely thrilled! It’s resolved my connectivity issues and has proven to be well worth the investment. Highly recommended!

Edit – now they have a “x55 pro” version which does have 2.5 Gbps ports. I recommend getting that version to be more future proof.I got the three pack of Deco X55 to extend Wifi from a main house to a guest house in the back yard. It has been a success and is working well so far.My internet speed from provider (fiber) is quoted at 1Gbps up / 1Gbps down, but it tests at 1.3 Gbps up and down at the modem.Wifi speed from Deco: My modern Wifi devices close to the main deco unit connect at 2-2.4 Gbps to the 5Ghz band and speed tests are a consistent 700-800 Mbps up and down.Things I like: If you have more than 2 deco units they will connect themselves either to the main unit or to another satellite unit depending on which is stronger. So you can have a circle/flower setup, or a linear daisy chain setup. If you let them do this automatically, they will usually choose the best one but not always. Luckily the app lets you manually set how they connect. So I can force them to always “daisy chain” in a line and make sure that they will always connect like: A—-B—-C and never allow C to connect to A. This was crucial to my application because I’m using three units to extend wifi in a linear fashion. So I have one at the front of my house (main), one at the rear of the house (connected to main) , and one in the guest house in the back yard (connected to rear). I get a consistent 150 Mbps up and down in the guest house. So it does lose some speed over the distance and through the two walls, but it’s good enough.It also lets you manually force certain devices to connect to certain deco units and certain bands (2.4 Ghz or 5Ghz). So if you have devices that are in a fixed location, you can tell them to always connect to the closest deco unit. It also has the option for a guest network and an “smart home IOT” network with different names and passwords. The app also lets you check the status of your wifi network remotely and reboot devices, even if you aren’t home.The only disappointment is that all the ethernet jacks on the decos are 1Gbps. So if your modem is faster than 1Gbps and has an ethernet jack to support that, you will be leaving speed on the table. My modem comes with a 2.5Gbps ethernet jack and I wish the deco units did too. It’s silly that my Wifi speed is over 2Gbps but the deco units can only connect to the modem at 1Gbps.

KUDOS to TP Link’s “apparently” New & HIGHLY IMPROVED Engineering/Software Team. It has been 10 + years since I last purchased any TP Link WiFi/wireless Networking devices. Their hardware was always OK, but their sofware and functionality was never better than OK. After looking over all reviews of the competition, the TP Link Meshing DECO series seemed quite high and for a 3-Node system the pricing was good. All I can say is W-O-W! THIS TP-Link 3-Node MESH Networking system ROCKS. I have a 1700 Sq Ft 2-story home that is much longer than wide. My guess is that the 3rd Node(DECO Unit) “may” not even be necessary but for $50 bucks more, not only do I not have ANY slow /dead spots, but outside on my large wrap-around patio the WiFi signal is just like being inside. The new software app works like a charm! The only real set-up is the first Node and one that is successful, the remaining nodes are basically “Plug & Play!” This 3-node system says it will cover up to 6500 sq, ft. I don’t doubt that. at roughly 2000 sq ft. my smartphone internet speed is almost as fast as my hard-wired ethernet connected desktop HP PC! Just DO it!!!Just as an aside (nothing to do with the TP-Link DECO system), when you set up your new network name (SSID) do NOT use the same name as your existing network IF ANY of the existing devices(especially a cable modem with Wi-Fi capabilities) will continue to be part of your WiFi system. THIS will cause an issue where your wireless devices logging on to the network will not know which (same name) network to log onto if both have the exact same name and will register a problem. Definitely CHOOSE A NEW SSID NAME, AND THE FIRST INSTALLATION STEP SHOULD BE DISABLING THE EXISTING WIRELESS NETWORK!
