Stanley Bostitch Heavy Duty 1-Hole Electric Pencil Sharpener with Auto Stop Mechanism (EPS8HD-BLK)

Item arrived in a torn manufactures box as is someone had already used it and opened it. Plugged the item into 3 different outlets and it either didn’t work at all or the motor was putting about unable to get going. Makes me think someone retuned this because it didn’t work then the seller sent it back out knowing it didn’t work.

Works well, quickly sharping pencils. Hope it lasts as long as my last one ( over 30 years)!

I bought this sharpener for my grandkids while visiting and saw they were using a small, manual sharpener for their colored pencils. They love it. It is quiet and efficient. Nice-looking too. Highly recommend.

We bought an old school hand crank pencil sharpener thinking it would be more durable, but we went back to electric and we love this one! It’s held up all school year, even with lots of use. It sharpens nicely and looks sleek and not to bulky. Definitely worth the money.

Puts a nice point on pencils. I am old school and prefer a nice sharp pencil over a mechanical one. This does a really nice job.

Is good size and quality

This was a gift for a teacher. We wanted a plain looking piece that worked well at a fair price . That is what we received.

Me gusta mucho que no parte la punta sencillamente cuando ya está listo aunque sigue sonando no parte. El precio me parece bastante razonable teniendo en cuenta que lo uso muchísimo y es duradero. Merece o pena.

Pencils sharpen easily but they do not stay sharp as long as our previous pencil sharpener, so that they have to be sharpened more often.

Likes round pencils better than hexagonal ones, but will sharpen both. So hard to find a pencil sharpener these days. Refuse to buy anymore plastic mechanical pencils or leads in little plastic boxes. Why can’t there be durable metal mechanical pencils and lead sold in something like a matchbox? So great to be able to have a nice, sharp old fashioned pencil without the plastic!

The quality seems good and the sharpener provides a clean sharp point on graphite pencils. The only negative is that the pencil needs to be lined up in a specific way to smoothly insert into the sharpener. There is not a lot of wiggle room putting the pencil in the sharpener, but then again maybe that is why the point comes out so sharp and smooth.

This is a great pencil sharpener. This is the second one we’ve had. The first one last many years and finally went out, so on to the replacement. It’s easy to use, the kids have no problem using it. It lasts for several pencils and then you need to let it rest or cool down and then can use it again. When the pencil shavings gets too full and needs to be emptied, the sharpener won’t turn on, which is a safety feature. So if it doesn’t for some reason, try emptying the tray.

This product stopped working September 2023. It wasn’t heavily used. Is there any recommendations for repairs?

Much quieter and more efficient than my old Bostitch I had for years. Thats why I purchased same brand again. Very reliable.

Like that it sharpens very well and not too loud.

I’m disappointed because this is usually such a good brand. It will overheat and stop working after 6-10 pencils. If it sits for 20+ minutes it’ll start working again…for a few more pencils. Not good enough for a “heavy duty” sharpener, was hoping to use it for high volume sharpening. Sharpens unevenly so one side of the pencil shows a long point of the core but the other side doesn’t (see photo), this happens even if you rotate the pencil while sharpening. Difficult to clean out, shavings get packed inside the mechanism so needs blown air to clear it out. Sharpens nicely to a sharp point for hard-core pencils, but the mechanism is a bit rough and easily breaks off softer-core pencils before they are fully sharpened, despite the description stating it’s good for colored pencils (which are mostly soft-core). Soft colored pencil core shavings also get stuck in the mechanism as it heats up and are difficult to clean out. I see from other reviews that the overheating after 5-10 pencils is a consistent issue; I ordered a replacement thinking this was defective, but after reading the other reviews I don’t have high hopes that it will be any better.

The pencils go in a little hard. But I suppose that’s so you can use a variety of sizes, I’m not sure.

There’s not a whole lot to say. It does what it says it does and does it quickly and quietly. Is it whisper quiet? No, it’s a pencil sharpener, but given the other two electric sharpeners we’ve had prior to this one, it’s pretty quiet.

I really like this sharpener it is heavy duty. I bought this brand for less the first time it lasted me a year. So, went up to this level. I use it everyday to sharpen my coloring pencils. It gets a workout lol.
