Let me tell you shwat. If there is anything more American than guns , beer , and the American flag it’s a dang ole square body . And one of mine just so happens to be a dodge . Which if you are unfamiliar with the term it translates to big pain in the *** when it comes to electronics. Keep that in mind . Now on my 79 dodge one connector doesn’t just go to one component . Some of the wires are interconnected. For example oil pressure sensor . You’d think a bunch of highly sophisticated individuals who can turn a piece of metal into a living and driving machine would connect the pressure sensor to the Sensor , than the oil pressure switch and just leave it at that right ? Dodge : na Pham . <—- point proven .Now in terms of how the power probe helped me . It’s accurate, it will pin point the exact spot you have an open or short circuit. It’s small and can fit in tight spaces . It functions as it should , it feels like it was built with quality materials . Value for money . If it was 1,000 dollars I’d buy 2 . Has saved me headaches and time and money .My point being if it can fix a 40 year old dodge it will fix your car , prolly a space shuttle , world hunger , etc

I had a Defective Turn Signal on a 2001 Dodge Pickup. It was in the shop for 1 year 3 months and the mechanic couldn’t fix it.So I brought it home and worked several weeks and no results. I ordered the Power Probe Short & Open Circuit locator. It took about 5 minutes to locate the problem area! Unbelievable! Every shop needs one!

Easy to use and trace wiring to pinpoint a short or open. Time saver for easier and quicker repairs. It is valued a little higher than some other places but not all harbor freight stores have them on hand.

Only used once so far and made finding the short easy. Didnt have to take any of the gutters apart on the bus pointed right to the back to the area

This unit is great at locating open circuits or broken wires. It can follow the wire to the location of the break. At this price, you couldn’t get more than 2 hours of labor testing for break or short at most shops. You can fix these things yourself if you try.

ght this as a gift for Christmas and it arrived on time and as described! I can’t say anymore than that as I wasn’t the person who used it.

Find short in auto circuits. Bought two units and neither remote unit off switch works. I have to unscrew cover until contact to batteries is broken. Probably intentionally overlooked by their inspector who was not hand strong enough to do the check. It basically impossible to contact the company.

I spent entire weekend trying to find running light short on 85 chevy. Took so much apart and no luck. I have power probe 3 and though it’s amazing it’s not a short finder. Figured I’d get this to help me find short and use in the future. Found the short in less than 10 mins and had to touch nothing. Moved absolutely nothing. Impressive how well it worked. I also learned you don’t need this kit. Just buy the standard no case tool. Especially if you already have a power probe.

Worked great. I had to trace an intermittent short in a Toyota’s parking light circuit. The kit led me right to a bad socket.

. I didn’t know a week and a half ago one of these devices was around. I bought this and literally saved me $1500. I know the future of this machine is going to be very useful. It found my problem within a foot of where the problem was. I highly recommend this for anyone.

I was skeptical paying this much, but when my interior lights in my Cayenne suddenly quit, I couldn’t find the problem. This tool pinpointed the problem within a couple minutes, no joke. Very much a tool that’s worth the money.

ter tech 20 years. Yes they made finding wiring short’s open ground so much easier. You could see you were a wire What is going inside of a wiring harness instead of having to cut that harness open so looking for a open or short in a engine bay wiring harness and inside body wiring harness is so much easier

are top notch. Product was not new, it had been returned by someone. All the pieces were there but it had definitely been used. I have not had a job that required it’s use but returning stuff is a drag. I’m going to take a chance that the product is okay since it will take quite a while and be a hassle to return the unit that was shipped to me. Hopefully, it will work as designed.

I am a Power Probe fan and find that all of the Power Probe products are well built and work as described. This tool is one of those tools that when you need it you are at the end of your sanity chasing down an open or short. Back in my automotive electrical system training days I was thought to use a resetting relay and a radio to find electrical shorts, one step away from looking for smoke. When I had a short recently in my trailer harness this tool took me within a few inches of the problem, allowing me to open the harness and repair the short quickly. The initial use is a little cumbersome… meaning you need to read the short manual Lol but after a couple uses the set up and use is almost automatic. Another one of those must have tools if you own a GM vehicle and do the never ending electrical work yourself.

  37. Derrick Weaver

This short/open finder works good. Keep in mind this is not a magic box and does not tell exactly whats wrong and where the problem is. It is a good aid to finding electrical problems. Not a rookie tool. It is for more advanced techs with good knowledge of automotive electrical systems and how they work. This is a shop time saver IF you read the instructions.

used this device consistently for two months, which I think is ample time to formulate an opinion. My experience up to this point always ended the same – I reverted to my own homemade tool and method of circuit diagnosis, which has been determined to be faster, more accurate; and the tool didn’t cost $130.00.This probably works OK on cars, but not so well on trucks. This is not a criticism of the tool, but trucks contain much more metal in the chassis, which disrupts the ability of the receiver to follow the signal. The ability to track a short to ground is OK, but the device isn’t capable of tracking a short to power.I was led to believe that the device could be used on an active circuit, which it cannot – the circuit must be completely isolated. This is understandable and the the only method that I truly trust, but this tool doesn’t tell you much more than a low-impedance incandescent bulb will, which costs a lot less than $130.00.Other observations include:» The signal lead is too short – it’s necessary to manufacture and continually modify a hanger for the transmitter» The probe tips are too broad and are likely to create a connection problem where one did not exist before» Cheap in quality – this wouldn’t last six months in a working shop» A short to power cannot be tracked» High-impedance – does not load the suspect circuit and will not identify a soft or intermittent fault» Self-piercing probes are dangerous when applied to modern vehicles – the use of these leads on the wrong circuit will definitely create a problem where one did not exist beforeDIY-types and beginners will probably like this device just fine, but experienced professionals will be disappointed.
