I had no idea you could repair Christmas lights, I would always just throw them away if the replacement bulb didn’t fix it. This has a lot of different settings and functions. I really like being able to find what strand is the problem, it’s like a little mystery game. It’s easy to use, once you read the instructions and it works really well.

Many years ago I purchased some sort of detector that was supposed to detect which bulb was burned out – similar concept to this but a bit different. I think it might have even been advertised on TV at the time. In any event it was a piece of trash and didn’t do a thing. For that reason I’ve not bothered with other devices advertised to fix string light sets and/or to detect which bulb is out. That changed a couple days ago when I was frustrated with built in lights on an indoor garland and small tree didn’t work. I figured I’d give things another chance – especially considering how easy it is to return things on Amazon if it didn’t work.Tried the first time an hour ago and WOW! I did the first of the options in the instructions and within a few seconds the string of lights on our garland lit up. Then the same thing for the lights on the small decorative tree. I’m totally amazed and sold on this product. My only regret is I didn’t have it a couple weeks sooner, back when I was putting the string lights on the front of the house and our large christmas tree. Inevitably a few strings from prior years never work and this year was no exception and I threw the bad ones away. If I’d had this tool then I could have fixed them in a jiffy. But I’ll be ready next year!

My pre-lit garland is several years old now, so no surprise that a bulb finally blew and half of it refused to light up. (Two garland pieces that I link together – the first half remained dark while the second half was fine.) My husband wanted to unwrap the lights from the garland, and buy a new string of lights for it. I didn’t want to have to deal with unwrapping it…it’s covered in glitter, it would take forever, and it seems so wasteful. I convinced him to let me try this little gem of a tool, first. So much easier and faster!!! A couple of clicks with the little gun and all of a sudden we could see that a whole 10 of the bulbs were bad!! Well, isn’t that just convenient, considering that there are 10 replacement bulbs included in this set! 5 minutes later, and the garland looks brand new and it fully lit. Saved us so much time unwrapping and rewrapping a string of lights, plus no getting your fingers stabbed by pokey fake pine needles as you try to deal with getting the lights disentangled from the little branches. I now have to fight the urge to go door to door in our neighborhood, offering to test everyone’s lights….

We have a 9ft pre lit tree. Last year we ignored a out strand of lights, this year when we plugged it in at least 1/3 of the lights were out. I read the directions and started pulling bulbs and pulling the trigger. Within 30 minutes my entire tree is glowing. Interesting thing I found, when you’re pulling the trigger and the strand isn’t coming back on, watch the whole strand. The bulbs that need to be replaced flicker just enough to be recognized and fixed.I read reviews about getting the lights out hurts your fingers. On the top of the gun is a bulb remover. Just flip the gun over and slide the bulb in and pull. Super easy.

I’ve been fascinated seeing this advertised for years. I have a prelit tree with the bottom strand out for years. This year I thought I’d try fixing it. I ordered the device at 4:15 and it arrived at 8:15. It took me a while and a you tube video to work it out. I didn’t realize until much later there are better instructions folded within the cardboard backing. I pulled a bulb, plugged the socket in the “gun” and pulled the trigger repeatedly. Much to my amazement the string lit up, though rather weakly. Cool, fixed, I thought. Pulled off the “gun”, plugged in the bulb and nothing. I never again got the string to light up for the trigger. That’s when I watched the video. You have to figure out which blub is bad while the gun has it lit up. This is basically impossible on a prelit tree. On the video there’s a string of lights on a table. I played with the blub testing feature, swapped out one blub, lights still out. The voltage detector saved the day. I found the beginning of the bad string, luckily it was at the bottom of the tree, and I could sort of follow it starting where it plugged into the tree. The “gun” beeps as long as there is voltage going through the wires. That narrowed it down to just a couple of lights to pull and test. Voila, I had lights. Four stars because it is not quite as magical as advertised, but still pretty great.

I never thought a product like this would work and I’ve never been so happy to eat my words!!! I had two strings of lights out on my 1200 light pr-lit tree that is only three years old. I was not about to cut the strings off and add new strings! I had replaced the fuses and checked that all the lights were nice and tight and they still didn’t work! I begrudgingly ordered this and had it delivered same day. To my total surprise this product worked exactly as described! I plugged the first string into the Light Keeper Pro, pressed the trigger 30 times, giggled at myself for even trying this and then plugged the string back into the power outlet and to my amazement the string lit up perfectly!!! I couldn’t believe it. For the 2nd string I had to use the audible voltage detector method as the above method did not work for this string. But again to my delight it worked perfectly! Seven lights in the Light Keeper Pro stopped chirping. I replaced that seventh bulb and as soon as I put the new light in place the whole string lit up! Never been so happy! Finally a product that actually does what it claims!!!! This is the absolute best purchase I have made in years! Just made my day! Can’t go wrong in buying this product!

Top notch. Works, great quality and again, it works!Initially I set up tree to check out condition. A section would not light. Sent out family text to ask for help. My son responded and told me to purchase this product. Received it and set it up and initially found three burnt bulbs out of the bunch that were burnt out. Replaced all three and yes, lights were back on. Yet over the course of a few hours, replaced several! It’s as if they all starting burning out and replaced as I found new spent bulb. Then, after many replaced, it leveled out and all lights were stable. So happy and satisfied with this purchase. It saved me the cost of a new tree. Which I didn’t need nor did I want. Also purchased extra bulbs. Glad I did. While they come with the tool, I needed many more than that. So don’t be surprised if after initial bulbs replaced, more start to go.Grateful is the word. I like my tree and very happy I can set it up again this year!

Giving it 3 stars instead of 1 because it’s possible I am just too big an idiot to figure this thing out and the company really does seem to take a lot of pride in this product. Here’s my experience: I spent several hours trying to figure this out and never could. I very, very much wanted it to work. I watched and rewatched videos, tried different strands of lights, and employed the scientific method to the best of my ability to figure out how to get it to work consistently and also fix my lights and I couldn’t do it. Ultimately, I determined it was probably more economical to just replace the strand of lights once a certain percentage went out. I will tell you this though, the company has really tried to make this easy to understand and put out some videos that make it seem like it is super simple, but as I’ve said, even following along step by step with the video many times I couldn’t get the same results.

The voltage detector, quick-fix trigger and bulb tester all worked well and saved me time repairing a 550 bulb tree that had all but one of its 11 strings failed (not lighting any bulbs). I did not need to use the fuse tester. To use the ac voltage detector / tracer, you need to know that only the hot ac line (not the neutral) can be traced, so you have to pay attention to which wire in the pair you have the head of the sensor next to.The bulb tester jaws are a bit stiff, but I got used to them. It might be nice to add an LED to the bulb tester that lights up if the bulb is shorted. That way you would know the contacts were made and not waste more time (and battery power) than needed wiggling the bulb around in the tester on shorted bulbs. My bulbs had socket latches, and I could not figure out how to get the bulb puller to work for these, even after manually releasing the latch, so I had to pull them manually.

e lit tree. We bought a discount pre-lit tree and part of the discount was having 80% of the lights being out. Luckily we found this little tool. For us the most useful part was the individual bulb checker. However the way to test full strands is also amazing.

6 strings of lights that I almost threw away. Voltage detector could be better, it’s intermittent and takes a little practice. Otherwise the unit works great. A number of great YouTube videos on how to use this.

trees… with modification. Have had this gun for years. Actually works as described about 80% – which is basically magic.I have a Balsam Hill tree, which recently went out. I tried this guy to fix it, but it didn’t work at first:I can now confirm, this does work for Balsam Hill tree incandescent lights!…. just not out of the box. The modifications are pretty easy though. The problem is the Balsam Hill bulbs look the same, but actually have a slightly wider bulb base than the standard bulbs. The ideal way of using this gun – plugging it into a socket and pulling the trigger – doesn’t work because the contacts aren’t wide enough to touch the contacts in the bulb socket on the strand.Modify your gun by cutting off the plastic hood/cup/cover around the socket plug on the gun, and then pulling the contacts out wide. With this it will make the connection, and using the trigger works!I did this on my gun and can confirm my tree is back to life!

t. I typically do not write reviews unless a product is exceptional…exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. This product exceeded my expectations and is the BEST $25 THAT I HAVE EVER SPENT!!! I would give it 10 stars if that was an option. Before purchasing, I read a lot of reviews on multiple sites and was worried that this product was a gimmick, but I was desperate after discovering 3 different decorations that would not light. (Two sections of my outdoor pre-lit garland that I already hung after a quick light check that apparently was too quick AND half of a light set that I know was working before I strung and attached it on some indoor garland.) I didn’t have hours to spend removing and restringing lights like I did last year on a 4 ft pre-lit tree and I had already wasted time searching for burn-out/loose bulbs and replacing fuses. My hope diminished even more after I mentioned the order to a colleague who told me that she purchased the product but it didn’t work for her or her neighbor.Well, the product arrived Friday night and I used it yesterday morning. It fixed ALL 3 sets of the non-working lights!!!! AND it took less than 10 minutes. It was amazingly simple and easy to use. I just followed the instructions and removed one of the unlit bulbs, inserted the bulb socket into the device, and pressed the trigger. The unlit lights immediately flickered on but they did NOT remain lit UNTIL I replaced the removed bulb.I am going to be telling everyone I know about this product! I am always skeptical when I read a rave review so I am including a screen shot of the text I sent my mother yesterday morning after I used the product for the 1st time. Unfortunately, I don’t have a before photo but the entire left half of the garland would not work even though it is only 1 light set.

Worked quickly to resolve multiple issues!!. Sound like a fix it tool that is too good to be true right? Well it is true and the Light Keeper Pro does everything they say…We have a 2004 artificial tree that still looks great but last year I spent hours unsuccessfully trying to fix all the lights. The tree had several sections that were out and it was extremely difficult troubleshooting the multiple problems. Was going to replace the lights or tree this year but decided to give this seemingly longshot tool a try first. What’s to lose – if it works yay, if not it gets returned.Well I got it today and spent 10 minutes reading all the directions then watched a quick you-tube video. That was the most time I spent on the whole project. A few clicks here and there and viola – all light sections are back on!! Then used the spare bulbs and tester to swap out a few blown bulbs. Done! The Lightkeeper pro made our old artificial tree look brand new again. $20 well spent for a great tool that will likely get more use in years to come. A+ for sustainability too!Seriously… Thank you LightKeeper Pro 🙂

nfortunately, this didn’t help us as we had 2 entire lines out on our pre-lit tree. Apparently, both of our lines were blown and we just had to add more lights. Maybe if we had found this earlier and when the lights were newly out it would’ve worked. It’s been a year and we thought we’d give it a shot. Our lights have a dark shadow along the base of the bulb indicating the entire line is blown, it didn’t know this until after we purchased the product.Clearly in the videos many people have great luck with this tool…now just to decide whether to keep it or not.

sets. While this might work for some lights, it did not fix our pre lit tree, but I’m not blaming the tool, I’m blaming the tree. Upon this not working, we decided to pull and check several bulbs in the section that doesn’t work, and they were all burned, which according to the instructions, means the string has reached the end of its life. This tree is 6 years old, and was purchased at Big Lots for $50, so I feel we got our moneys worth out of it. We’ll just toss it at the end of the holiday season, and get a new tree and move on.

d me fix four strands of net lights this year. Note, because net lights have wire channels on both sides of the bulb, you’ll have to break the channel on one side off to use the shunt tool, but doing that on one light doesn’t really mess anything up anyway.Four stars because the voltage detector is a bit hit or miss, but works well enough if you’re patient with it. Definitely better than having to either buy four new strands or spend a whole evening checking each bulb Clark Griswald-style.

Yes… it can be a little “complicated” or “intimidating”. Fortunately for me, I’m a “geek” that likes working on broken things. I fix DOA lawnmowers for people, replace window panes, and do all kinds of handyman work.Step 1. Pay attention to the directions. It’s not a “Point and Click” operation, but all the tests are there to help you find the issue.Step 2. I found this by accident. Even if you think the fuses aren’t the problem, it’s a good practice to remove them, and put them back in… or put in new ones. I did this for one string, and it magically lit up! Maybe resetting the fuses helped. I don’t know. I’m not an electrician.Step 3. I had five”dead” strings of lights so I used one as the “replacement bulb” string. If you don’t mind spending the money, buy new bulbs. It’s faster and easier.Step 4. Do the “easy” things first. Plug in the string to the Light Pro Keeper aparatus and pull the trigger 30 times. Probably isn”t the issue, but good to know that early.Step 5. This is where patience comes in. Pull bulbs one at a time and test them in the Light Keeper Pro bulb tester. If it’s dead, replace with a good bulb (I used a “good bulb” from a spare set of dead strings). Test the bulb you’re going to use as a replacement to be sure that it will light (from Step 5). You’ll be amazed that, when you find the one bad bulb, and replace it with a good bulb, a lot of the lights in the string may light up. That helps you to find the ones that are dead and you can replace those with a good bulb. Keep going until all the dead bulbs are replaced. In theory, you now have a good light string!Step 6. You aren’t the patient type. You agonize over the failure of the string to light up, you get back on Amazon and order a whole new string of lights. You get back on Amazon and give the Light Keeper Pro a bad review because it didn’t fix your lights and you’re sure the 30 minutes you spent trying was all you had to do.If you used up the three wishes the genie gave you, then you’ll tell all your friends that Light Keeper Pro doesn’t work and is a waste of money. Not me. I’m a geek. Yes, I spent a few hours tediously swapping bulbs and running the various tests. But I turned five bad strings into four good strings using bulbs from the fifth bad string. I followed directions, learned a heck of a lot in the process, and gave Light Pro Keeper a solid five star rating. But that’s me… I’m a geek.

I found out about this device by watching a christmas light troubleshooting segment on a morning show and when I saw the price, it was a no brainer to get one and try to fix many strings of lights that I quit using because I wasn’t able to get them to work. It’s great that the packaging is non-destructive (you don’t have to slice it open to get the item from the packaging) and clever that the instructions are built into the foldout back side of the packaging so after you are done with the light keeper pro, you can put it back in the package and hang it on your tool wall for the next time you need it.If you are one that learns better through visuals like me, one who wants to learn about light strings and how the tool works, or have icicle or netting lights to fix, I highly recommend going to the Ulta Lit website and watching the 40 minute detailed instruction video. I did because I was curious about how the device works and I found out so much stuff that helped me fix my light strings. I like how Ulta Lit is so transparent in that they want you to know why light strings work the way they do or how their tool works to fix light strings and not just demonstrate procedures on how to use their tool. Some light strings I was able to fix with the trigger function.Another light string I was able to fix using voltage detection method. I find the voltage detection feature of Light Keeper Pro so-so and I ended up using my stand-alone non-contact voltage detector tool to help me find the area I needed to concentrate on to fix that light string. The online 40-minute instructional video really shined on a difficult issue I had wtih one of my icicle light string. First, there is a dedicated section of the video that talks about troubleshooting icicle lights so I followed the advice and got to an area to investigate within the non-working section. I next used the bulb tester to test bulbs in that area and they were all fine. Finally, I was about to give up on that string until I remembered the part of the video about christmas light sockets. Thank goodness some light sockets are repairable as I had always thought they were molded sockets and not just contacts slid into channels in the socket. I inspected each socket in the burnt out area just to rule that out before giving up on the string and I found a socket that needed its contact reset so I followed the instructional video procedure to remove the wire with contact and put it back into place in the socket and that got me going with that icicle string! The fuse tester works great as I temporarily took a fuse from a working string and tested it just to see how the fuse tester works.I found the most useful features are the trigger, the bulb tester and the storage compartment in the handle. I’ve taken a few clear (for icicle), multicolor bulbs and some extra 3A fuses and put them in the handle so they are handy when I need them.So far I’ve gotten every light string that was broken working again and now I have more light strings to use for decoration!

First and foremost, this tool is for the regular Christmas light sets, not LEDs. Many people, like me, probably don’t have an entire collection of LED lights. A lot of my lights are still the old filament style. What’s even worse is that many of my Christmas decorations are the kind that’s pre-lit. So 2 of my 3 Christmas trees, a couple random tabletop decorations, and even my front porch trees are all lit with the filament lights. And anyone who’s bought Christmas decor can tell you they’re typically not cheap, even on post-season clearance. So when I noticed this past year that many of them didn’t light up or had bad strands, I knew I had work to do.For about 3 hours this past season, I noticed my main Christmas tree didn’t light up. An entire section was dead and I wasn’t sure if it was a single bulb or the entire strand was bad. I had a spare set of string lights and worked on transferring the working bulbs to each socket on that tree. I ended up fixing it but 3 hours of pulling a bulbs out and putting them back in left me with blisters on my fingers. One of the things that I remember the most about that ordeal is that some of the bulbs were bad and I mistakenly forgot to mark them on the spare light strands. So honestly, I had to double-check the replaced bulbs for the entire strand not once, not twice, but three times. All I can say is it was a BAD experience. That’s when I got fed up and bought the Light Keeper from Amazon. It was actually sold by Amazon, and not a 3rd party. This product is actually 5 products in 1. Bulb tester, fuse tester, audible continuity detector, shunt repair, and bulb remover.Honestly though, I only used the bulb tester, fuse tester, and audible continuity detector when repairing the rest of my lights. You see, further inspection on the remainder of my lights showed burnt out bulbs. So I knew it wasn’t a shunt problem because the directions (very detailed mind you), specifically state when/if it is a shunt problem. Since I could visibly see that several bulbs were burned out, I just went on my merry way to replace each and every bulb. But just so I wouldn’t run into the same troubleshooting ordeal explained in the previous paragraph, I used the bulb tester to test each and every bulb BEFORE I replaced the bad one. That way I knew I was putting in a good bulb. After about 7 strands of replacing bulbs, I salvaged my Christmas decor. Not only am I happy with the result, I saved money by not having to throw out bad decor and I saved time too!

I saw the commercial, I watched the You-Tube Videos, I thought AWSOME! So I bought it looking forward to all the benefits it claims. However, I can sum this product up in one word: USELESS!The first thing you need to know is that it will NOT work with light sets that have a programming box for multiple blinking options. –why did I have to buy it to find that out? It’s only mentioned buried in the instructional tri-fold.The primary reason I bought the thing is to repair the programmable $18.00-$24.00 light sets, who cares about the standard 150 light sets that can be had for $3.99 in any dollar store? But guess what? It DOES NOT WORK on those either!Yes, I followed the instructions; I read, and reread, them; I watched several videos, I wasted about 7 hours and $18.00.They claim that the number one cause of failure is a bad shunt, and the click method is supposed to fix that most of the time. Well, apparently none of the 6 strings I used it on had this problem, or the click to fix dealie don’t work–take your pick, I still can’t figure it out. Then I used the sound troubleshooting method. First, it’s very inconsistent as on one pass, it stops beeping, on the next pass over the same spot it beeps–and yes, again, I was following the instructions by the numbers, So when I think this is probably the problem bulb, I pull it and test it, the bulb was fine. Using a magnifier and adequate light, I confirmed the socket was just fine. So it told me nothing. Finally, I reverted to the old fashioned way– replacing each bulb one at a time. Meanwhile, I kept using he light keeper as I went, hoping to see how it acted when the actual problem was manually found. And guess what, it falsely indicated no problem at the bad bulb! (The tester was beeping away, indicating no-problem there!) So, finally I found the bad bulb and fixed it, but no thanks to the Light Keeper Pro. The only reason I kept working on that cheap set for almost an hour was a dogged determination to figure out what I was doing wrong. I mean it worked in all the company and user videos, so it musta’ been me right?Pig-headed, never say-die, guy that I am, and again, just in case I’m missing something, I went to work on another set with one of three sections out. Same process same result! Then on a another set that I couldn’t fix at all. Bottom line, either mine is defective, or the product only works for a very specific malfunction which, apparently, none of my 6 malfunctioning sets had.If I hadn’t seen their commercial, I would have just tossed the errant sets and bought new. What bothers me most isn’t the money spent–I’ll get that back–It’s the time completely wasted watching Videos, reading instructions, and trying to figure what I must have been doing wrong! I have no doubt that I had nothing to do with this gimmicks failure to produce the results promised. Save your money, and more importantly save your time and aggravation!
