Great monitor! I use it vertically alongside my 5K iMac. The resolution is perfect. It is very simple to connect and use, and it matches perfectly with an Apple environment.

I like the picture quality of this monitor. The build, especially for the all-important joystick, is solid: after two years of heavy use, everything still works like new.I have only two complaints: 1. it takes a relatively long time (up to approximately 10 seconds) for the monitor to wake up from sleep when using it with my Mac Studio computer running macOS Monterey (wake-up time with my old Mac Pro, running OSX Mavericks 10.9.5, is very fast); and 2. the USB ports (on the monitor’s rear panel) heat up connected thumb drives to where they become hot to the touch within two minutes after insertion; heat destroys electronic components prematurely, so this is not good.Aside from those complaints, I am very happy with this monitor.

I got this screen for my Macbook Pro 2021 with an M1 chip! It works great right out of the box! Super Easy assembly! I turned off the beeping sound on the monitor button and chose the Cinema picture mode as I think it matches the color tone of my Mac the most. (I will definitely look into how I could adjust color even more) I am using it primarily for graphic design, web design, photography and simple video edits. I use Canva, Photoshop, Lightroom and Elementor , Wix, etc. The screen image is SO clear and super detailed pixels and there are no issues with text clarity. I like the smoothness of the screen feels easy on the eyes. The screen is adjustable in height & viewing angle. And I decided to use my own BT speakers just cuz I know they are better sound quality anyway. No camera , but my laptop has one anyway so it’s not a big deal. I have everything I need right now. And full disclosure, I am not a big time professional designer but this will certainly level up my business output immensely! Honestly if you are looking for a monitor that has 4K UHD 2160p for Mac M1and this is within your budget, it is totally worth it! Hope this helps!

After getting a similar priced monitor on Amazon and being horribly underwhelmed by that monitor’s capabilities, I saw this monitor was discounted to the same price so I bought it on the strength of the specs and reviews. So glad I did. In every way this monitor is superior to the other monitor I purchased. The audio output from the other monitor was worse than AM radio through blown speakers, it was that bad. This monitor’s speakers, while not high-fidelity, are decent for every-day or home office usage. More importantly the menu system is great, the image quality and panel are really impressive. And that it has USB-C PD capability (65 watts?) and works flawlessly with my M1 MacBook Pro, I give it a high recommendation.

Was using Dell u2415 that seemed pretty good for the new Mac mini (8/256) I just got, using HDMI. Dell screen had a few areas that were getting image burn or something, so searched for 27 in 4k replacement. Biggest question was would I notice a significant difference if did get a 4k, well the answer is yes. I got 27UN850-W since I don’t need 90w or 60w charging. Not a gamer, not a photo proofer, not a content creator. This screen is really nice, the text is much sharper and clearer, and my eye are not bugged out after extended viewing like they were on the Dell. Cost an issue, oh yeah, the apple display was not happening. Really anything over $400 wasn’t happening. Do I need a USB hub, no or ethernet in the monitor-no. Ran the included USB-C cord from the Macmini to the LG screen turned everything on and wow how nice the screen looked. It shows up in system as LG HDR 4K with color profile LG HDR 4K 60hz. It looks super excellent to me. Did try changing the resolution to I guess it was true 4K and everything was sharper, but needed a magnifying glass to read it, so I went back to that original setting as it was perfect. Looking in Hardware Graphics/Displays this is what my Mac was reporting: LG HDR 4K: Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (2160p/4K UHD 1 – Ultra High Definition) UI Looks like: 1920 x 1080 @ 60.00HzIt is silent just like the Macmini. Still quick and snappy. My windows machine has W11 and attach it via HDMI. The joystick control on the LG makes it easy to select what input to display and I had to play with that because it defaulted to some high resolution with 30hz! Everything was really choppy, got it set to a lower resolution at 60hz. This screen will go to sleep with the Mac, and wakes up fast no issue. The included speakers are set with Maxx sound on-which is an attempt to make them sound better-and they do get quite loud, but they are small monitor speakers, and would only be good for voice. At low volume levels music would probably be ok, but I am not using them, and using a bluetooth speaker for way better sound. Stand is stable for me, really easy to put together and get going. The power brick is hidden under desk, not a big deal that it is a small block, cord is plenty long. Well packaged. LG delivered a very nice screen for the money with this one. Super happy that it was plug and play with the Mac, and operates correctly with the Mac. It’s a keeper for me.Update April 26 2024—————- Quick update after using it daily for the last 6 months. No change in opinion, no buyers remorse, no screen issues, still easy on my 60+yr old eyes. Sometimes when reading text I really notice the detail and sharpness and get that happy feeling.

When I got a Mac Studio to replace my 27” iMac, I needed a monitor. After a lot of research I went with this one and am delighted. I can’t tell the difference between this and the monitor of the iMac, which is admittedly perfect. Highly recommend. When it goes to sleep it takes a bit longer to wake up than the iMac one, but not an issue for me.

Pros: excellent brightness, vibrant colors, clear non reflective display, great for graphic design, charges my HP laptop via USB c. I use it interchangeably between my HP laptop and MacBook Pro (mid 2015) and the picture quality is identical. best monitor on a budget, and I didn’t even buy it new, bought it in “good” condition.cons: none!

Bought this for my M1 Mac Mini, and it has been working flawlessly for a few months now. Really happy with this purchase. This nonsense that scaling would cause extra load on the cpu is just that. I use iStat Menus and it does not indicate any additional cpu usage. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

I performed weeks of research before committing to the 27UQ850-W. While no monitor is perfect, this is likely the best Apple 5K replacement under the $800 price point. I use Apple machines for just about everything except gaming: productivity, software development, creative workflows like photo editing and recording audio, and watching videos. I have a 2019 Macbook Pro 16 i9 (Intel) and another 2021 Macbook Pro 16 M1 Max. Both machines are working great with this monitor.Connectivity—————DisplayPort and USB-C ports work fine. I can’t tell any quality difference between them. My regular setup uses the DP port connected to CalDigit TS4 dock. Cables provided by LG are long enough to reach the TS4, but users with a machine farther away might need slightly longer cables. I haven’t tried the HDMI port because a lot of people report Apple issues with HDMI on M1-based machines. This monitor does not support daisy chaining or Thunderbolt.Resolution and Overall Visual Experience————————————————My biggest concern was how Apple-native 2560 x 1440 (“WQHD”) output would look when rendered on a 4K display. I write a ton of code and need text to look really sharp. I read all I could find about this subject and took a field trip to the Apple Store to evaluate the 5K display where the situation is perfectly ideal: 2560 x 1440 logical pixels get rendered onto a 5120 x 2880 display yielding an exact 2X scale factor in each axis. The results are super sharp text and smooth visuals for both content and UI elements — part of the Retina brand. Here’s the thing some readers may wish to know. On a 27″ display WQHD output does in fact look best from a text size and UI perspective, at least on Mac. Changing to resolutions other than 2560 x 1440 result in an experience that is less satisfactory. Imagine my surprise when, for WQHD output, text looked 85-90% as crisp as the Apple 5K. I sit between 26″ and 32″ away from this monitor. At this viewing distance I don’t struggle to read anything. Everything is clear. I am confident WQHD output on WQHD-native displays will look much worse despite a perfect 1:1 pixel mapping. I also think WQHD content will look better on a 27″ 4K than a 32″ 4K due to higher PPI on the smaller display. As to the alleged performance hit Mac machines take while downscaling to non-native resolutions like WQHD, here is my experience. Macbook Pro M1 Max doesn’t even blink. There is no observable difference in terms of heat, CPU, or anything else. By contrast the 2019 Intel Macbook Pro i9 runs hotter by 10-15 deg C. The fans run constantly above 2500 rpm. One Youtube user reported slowdowns on Apple hardware while connected to a 4K monitor and rendering scenes in Blender. I can see where this might be an issue for specific Apple machines and/or apps, but I suspect they are edge cases the average user won’t run into. This monitor has nice saturation and overall color balance. I’m no colorist but the display just looks really, really good. I tried toggling HDR in Apple settings under display but couldn’t discern any observable difference.Interoperability With USB-C Docks—————————————-I have accessories like monitor and audio interface connected through a CalDigit TS4 dock. This LG has no problems through it either. Both Macbook Pro machines remember display arrangements and resolutions that were previously selected. I haven’t observed power management related snafus as some people report, but I disabled power management while on A/C power.Brightness————-Going back to the priority for text legibility, I traditionally used extra brightness to enhance contrast and make reading easier on my eyes. I leave this monitor at 100% brightness, but I could probably go down to 85% before it would start to feel dim. Brightly lit rooms probably afford many fewer options unless one agrees to pay the Apple tax for the ultra-bright 5K.Build quality—————Build quality is okay. It looks like the cheap plastic that it is, though I like the narrow bezel all the way around the front. I haven’t tried out audio because I use studio monitors instead. The monitor does not include a camera. In closing I think this is a fantastic monitor — probably the best I’ve bought. Gamers and ultra discriminating users who need the very best probably won’t be happy with it. For the rest of us it’s a nice offering from LG that shows how far IPS panel technology has progressed in recent years.

I like the stand. I like the height it can get. I don’t like that the monitor cannot rotate side to side without moving the stand. My other issue is lack of auto detection on the inputs. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not, and I have not found a pattern. My desire was to leave it connected to my MacMini by HDMI and occasionally connect my MacBook through thunderbolt. I normally have to manually change the input through the monitor’s menu system.

A lot of research went into this purchase and so far, it has held up well w/lite use. I do wonder if the 27″ set is sharper. I say that as the monitor is set up at the back end of the desk, so I sit fairly close to it when it is working. For me, it is almost too wide, but I wanted real-estate on my panel: ergo 32″. I am not a gamer but I enjoy photography and reading about ancient history. Overall, recommended.

I love this monitor! It was easy to setup, picture quality is outstanding, and its large size makes doing detailed photo editing so nice. One tiny, and I do mean tiny, thing (not even an issue) is the screen calibration: It comes with a drop-down device that mounts at the top of screen, which reads and calibrates the monitor to factory settings; it was off a touch when I recalibrated with my datacolor Spider.Sweet monitor at a good price!

I bought this as a multi-use monitor to be used as a productivity machine using a windows machine, minor gaming (wii switch), and also for color accurate photography work using a Mac. I did look into getting the Mac studio display, if you have seen one then you’ll know how crispy that 5K panel is and how well it is built, so it was tempting, however the studio display is quite limited as it takes only a single I/O…. not sure how they can justify a $1,600 panel that takes one input only. This display is not 5K but looks good enough connected with a mac even if it does need to be scaled a bit. The screen accuracy with the included calibrator is a great feature at this price point. I do wish that a monitor of this size allowed the user to display multiple inputs at a single time with a split screen feature. Probably a feature that does not get talked about enough is the power delivery from the USB cable which can help eliminate some extra cords depending on the requirements of your computer. Something LG always does well with is their mounting arms, as most of them including this one allows for tilt, height adjustment, and even swiveling to make vertical. Some of these features other companies charge an extra arm and a leg for…This is my 3rd LG monitor and all have had no issues with durability, hopefully I have the same kind of luck with this one.

I wanted to buy a bigger screen, which meant going to an ultrawide with a QHD resolution. My last monitor was actually 1440p and looked pixilated. Hence decided to go with the 4k monitor. I absolutely love it. 4K resolution is great. Also, monitor seems to have a wider color gamut. Plenty of connectivity options with cables included. Screen is bright enough for me (in fact, I keep it at 35% brightness).

After looking for several 4K monitors at Best Buy & two at Micro Center, I decided to go with this one and so far, it runs great with my Mac Mini. The font is very clear and so is the color which you can’t tell with my picture. I DO NOT do gaming so I have no rating on that. While I was playing with the settings, I discovered that in the settings on the Mac Mini, there is a setting called High Dynamic Range which automatically adjusts the display to show HDR content. When I tried that, I was so impressed with the results I was given. I love the color profiles with the LG picture options! As far as the USB-C option is concerned, it worked like a charm when I plugged the cable that came with the monitor into my Mac. Also, The display port which I use for work, I have no issues with that either. Highly recommend and will be buying another one in the future.

I surrendered a company-provided Dell U2414H and bought this 4K LG display to drive with my 16″ MacBook Pro. The difference is practically like going from bitmap to vector graphics. Okay, maybe I exaggerate. But the image quality on this IPS panel is stupendous. And since I’m not a gamer, the 60Hz refresh rate is perfectly acceptable.

Ive had the monitor for a few month now. Works well and the speaker on the monitor for me personally i’m not fan of. It a nice size monitor for me i got the regular stand it with my MBP 16″ 2019.

Purchased this monitor for my Apple Mac Mini following extensive research. Had it for six months now. Could not be more pleased. No set up or Apple compatibility issues. Excellent resolution. Cannot address refresh rate / gaming since that is not a need for me. Saved $1300 vs. purchasing an Apple monitor.

I use this for video production so reviewing commercials and video content. The screen is great for finding the details when editing, since we are shooting in 4k is has good clarity and refresh rate. Also use for daily work (email, Excel, etc.) and has a nice screen where my eyes don’t get tired at the end of the day. When the monitor goes to sleep it makes certain tones which I would like to turn off but haven’t figured out how yet but other than that it is a good monitor compared to my old one. Has a nice look in my office as well.

  22. I Feel Fine

I’m driving this monitor with a 15″ Apple Macbook Air (Apple Silicon / M2). The MacBook and monitor sync at full resolution / 60Hz.Quick editorial. In my experience, Apple does FEATURE PRODUCTS really really well and PERIPHERALS really really horribly. Apple punts to third parties for most peripherals. And I’ve never had a Mac work with these peripherals work without a hitch. This includes all sorts of USB-C devices, hubs, and powered monitors like Dell Ultrasharps. So I didn’t have high hopes for this monitor working without issues. Go figure. It works fine.I was disappointed with brightness at first. Side-by-side my MacBook Air’s screen just blew away the LG. But if you’re willing to fiddle enough, the screen shines just fine. Very bright. As LG tends to do, there’s a power brick and a mickey mouse power cord which is a bit disappointing. LG should just put the transformer in the monitor and use the typical c13 cord that everything else uses (computers, other monitors, Fender amps, etc). The brick is just something to have to move separately or collect dust and bang up or even lose. I ended up sticking the brick to the back of the monitor with 3M command strips. It makes for a cleaner desk.I haven’t put this monitor through a long term test. Some people are complaining about failures. I’ll update this review in a year if I remember.

I have had this monitor for 2 years, love it for using a laptop and working on a larger screen. The USB-C to USB-C cable needs replacing, sometimes it works and powers the computer and sometimes it does not power? It connects to the monitor for a picture but not power? I cannot find the appropriate cable to replace? If I plug in a USBC- to USB-C it does not connect to a picture?

Like a lot of people, I was trying to find the perfect 4k monitor with USB-C capability to have a display for my MacBook Air M1. This monitor is great because not only is the text sharp but it also charges your MacBook. This is easy to use and worked straight out of the box.

I bought this model LG because this is the model that I read that was used in a lot of Apple iMac models. I wanted a display that had excellent color accuracy since I do photo and video editing. The first one I bought was FANTASTIC! I could see that the colors, contrast, etc. were SPOT ON when comparing to my iMac 27″. I give my first monitor 5 stars in all categories! I purchased a second monitor of the same model. I wish I could say the same. The second was HORRIBLE! I made sure the settings were the same on the new monitor as the first one and the picture quality was terrible. I promptly sent the monitor back. I’m worried about buying another one and it being just as bad as the second one.

Although I am aware this is a productivity monitor first, I was in the market for a 4K60 Monitor that could game well and would not break the bank. I am used to gaming on console so 120FPS support was not something I required as I am satisfied with 60FPS. I did endless amounts of research on various brands in this pricepoint to figure out what would be the best monitor in terms of screen quality and response time. This specific model did not have many reviews in terms of gaming performance, however I did know that LG makes great gaming monitors, this one has a game mode, and I was already looking at the LG 4K model priced below this one. When this model went on sale, I took a risk and purchased it over other highly praised monitors in this price point not knowing if it would be good for gaming, and I can answer that YES it is!Starting with screen quality, brightness is great, contrast is beyond expectation, white, gray, and black uniformity are all top notch, with little to no IPS glow. Colors are accurate and the resolution keeps things sharp. No complaints. For gaming, when you put this monitor directly side by side with a high refresh gaming monitor, it is extremely noticeable that this will not be as fast of a monitor as something gaming dedicated in terms of response time, however it is much more responsive than a normal 60FPS TV or other productivity based screens. I also have a 15 inch macbook retina display, and the response time on this monitor is atleast twice as good. Unless you are an ultra competitive high refresh gaming enthusiast, you will not notice any kind of input lag or poor pixel response in this monitor. It is just as good or better than playing console on a high end TV, and in gaming scenarios, I personally can not tell the difference between the response time on this monitor and my LG gaming monitor. It is only when using UFOTest that the difference becomes very apparent, and this mainly comes down to the difference in FPS. If I ran my dedicated LG gaming monitor at 60FPS, the response would be about the same.In short, if you are used to gaming on console with a TV and are looking for a responsive 60FPS display to prioritize image quality and play mostly singly player games with high settings, get this one and you will not have any regrets. If you are looking for the fastest thing in gaming and play mostly multiplayer competitive games you shouldn’t even be reading this review. If you CAN afford it, I would highly recommend a 4K120 gaming monitor for the best of both worlds. In this price point with realistic expectations in mind, this is a fantastic monitor!

picture. i love how well they’ve designed the stand for this monitor – the whole thing can be assembled in about 2 minutes without tools. The monitor looks great, and USB-C charging and peripherals works great for my MacBook Pro, so I just have a single USB-C cable to plug in and I’m ready to go. I’ve bought about 8 of these for my personal use as well as our office, and they’ve been very reliable. I highly recommend this for ease of setup and use, picture quality, and value.

ally found one for my M1 Mac. I have tried three different 4k monitors and this one is hands down the only “usable one” (probably the best under $400). It’s totally compatible with my M1 Macbook Pro, and give good use experience when plugged in. Picture quality is really nice and I have nothing to complain about it.

acbook Pro. Great color and clarity. Connects quickly and easily with my M1 Max Macbook Pro. I knocked off one star because the included USB C cable is pretty short and the monitor doesn’t work with anything but the included cables. I tried 2 different USB C cables from Apple and a generic one and neither worked. I called LG and they said they don’t make a longer one and that is the only one that works with the monitor. I use 2 of these monitors with my laptop so a longer cable would make it much more convenient to connect the one that’s furthest away from the computer.

iMac. Currently have a 2017 27″ 5K iMac and will be replacing it with an M2 Mac Mini or Pro when they’re released so I took advantage of Amazon’s Prime Day pricing and bought two of these LG 27UN850-W monitors. Since I don’t have the Mini yet, I wanted to compare them to my iMac. I connected one at a time and ran screen tests to confirm no dead pixels, etc. Both look to be in perfect shape. My iMac recognized them immediately and they worked right out of the box using the cable included by LG. I only changed two settings, one was to uncheck the “High Dynamic Range” as it made the images too bright. The other was to scale the resolution which made everything on both monitors almost identical. After changing both settings and working with the LG monitor and my iMac side-by-side I have to say that I am *very* impressed. Of course the LG is 4K, not 5K like the iMac, but the difference is more than acceptable. My office has a window behind me and although I really like the iMac’s glossy screen, the LG’s mat screen helps with the reflections quite a bit.I’m not a professional, but I do work a great deal with photos and videos as well as other graphics. When I move the images from my iMac to the LG and back I can see some differences but not enough to warrant spending $1500 on Apple’s stand-alone monitor. The LG monitor is simply an excellent value IMHO.I’ve only been running the monitors for a few days, but I have to say that I am very impressed. I’ve been using iMacs for about 20 years now and I wasn’t looking forward to switching to a Mini (or Pro), but I believe these are the monitors that will ease the transition a great deal.Highly recommended so far. I’ll be sure and report back if I come across any issues.

ac Studio. I just moved from a retina iMac to a Mac Studio and was looking for a monitor that was as good as the retina in the iMac. First off, nothing is as good as the retina iMac screen except the new $1,500 Apple monitor. But, this LG gets you 99% of the way there. It takes a little fiddling to get the resolution right but after working with it a couple of weeks, I can’t tell the difference between this monitor and the iMac when writing code – working with text. No idea about games or professional graphics. As far as casual watching YouTube and web browsing it’s every bit as good as the retina iMacs.I liked it so much, I got a 2nd one to connect to the Mac Studio replacing an older 27″ Apple Thunderbolt display. The monitor works great out of the box with the included USB-C cable. I now have 2 connected via the USB-C cables and they are great. Probably the only downside is the built in speaker. It’s no where near what the iMac’s speakers sound like. To solve that one, I found a Nylavee sound bar and it fits snugly under the monitor. One other issue I have not solved yet and it could be self inflicted is the computer sometimes will not go to sleep from the sleep menu the first try. Another issue is open apps don’t always stay on the 2nd monitor when the computer wakes up. This is a known problem when using non Apple displays so it might have to be something to live with until Apple has time to stop making new emojis and fix a few bugs in their software. Now I’m back to what I had with the iMac, except now I have 10 cores and blazing speed.

I have four 4K monitors:LG 27UN850-W X2, one desk dual monitor setup (will be referred below as LG)Dell U2720Q X2, one desk dual monitor setup (will be referred below as Dell)I use LG, my spouse uses Dell.In my mind LG is better to fit my needs. From my spouse’s point of view, Dell is preferred over LG.1. Why does LG better fit my needs?a) both LG and Dell have anti-glare screens. But I found Dell reflects a little bit more than LG. I have a “designer white” desk. Dell’s reflection is noticeable especially during the evening when using the desk lamp and watching videos. On the other hand, LG does not distract my attention due to glare. The Dell glare issue could be a combination of my desk color and light source setup. But given the exact same setup, LG does not distract my attention due to reflection.b) LG has ports arrangement on the back, rather than at the bottom. I’d like to try different gadgets during the past weeks. The LG’s design makes it super convenient to plug/unplug cables, firetv stickers. Dell’s traditional port design also works well thanks to the best ergonomics stands (will come to it later). Adding devices/cable to Dell just by simply rotating the screen.c) LG has a user-friendly screen control joystick. Dell’s traditional button is not comparable. Again, because I’d like to change settings, and try different gadgets.2. Why does Dell better fit my spouse’s needs?Ergonomics, ergonomics, ergonomics! My spouse needs ergonomic monitor stands. Dell’s design fits the bill perfectly. A complete freedom of adjustment with extremely wide ranges, at any direction.3. What do the two monitors share in common? They are all very good monitors for regular day to day work/entertainment. Again we are not professional graphic designers nor video editors. For average users like us, you cannot go wrong with either LG/Dell. For most of the time, all our monitors work in reader/office/text mode. When it comes to entertainment, LG/Dell, for me, do not make much difference. I cannot tell the difference when watching videos or playing games, or editing family photos. They look pretty much the same for casual entertainment. I also placed the LG/Dell side by side, playing the same youtube 4K HDR videos with all monitors in full HDR settings, but I cannot tell which is better. They all calibrated to their own standards. In their own “reference frame”, they all look very beautiful.Btw, isn’t the best entertainment to find a job to do what you like? The office/text mode might be the best entertainment mode for me :-)Finally, because this is my serious review under this LG product tag. I will add 3 more points for LG only:1. LG has a bulky voltage transformer shown in the picture. The power cable on each side of the voltage transformer is about 55 inch (total about 110 inch including the transformer in the middle), long enough for any home office setup. However, for a standing desk, I have to spend a bit extra effort to hide the bulky transformer in the cable management tray.2. One of the LG monitors has a very tiny issue with the stand. I returned it and bought a new one. The problem went away.3. LG has a builtin speaker that can be easily used with fireTV stick 4K, just plug and play. If I want to control volume, I’m using the LG monitor joystick, or a separate speaker or a bluetooth (Jabra evolve 75), where output device with builtin volume controls. The joystick also makes the hdmi input switch very easy, fireTV to Nvidia Quadro, very smooth joystick operation. But better to get a 4K HDMI switch.
