Like this brand. Had my old one for years, Even if your not an electrician it is a safe tool to use to see if an outlet is working.

If you EVER have to work on home wiring, you REALLY need to have one of these. NEVER get shocked again. HD & Lowes have similar fancy ones…this is all you need $20 cheaper.

Super simple to set up and use. Tested it on a couple outlets and wires and it works great and accurately detects electrical current. A must have for safety when dealing with electricity.

I paid more for this name brand instead of a Chinese knockoff. This worked as advertised and detected the hot wire I was looking for when I put the batteries in and used it on day one. It seems like it’s well built. I’m glad I bought this.

A nice size pen to check voltage in your household wiring. This is easy to use. Put in the battery and press the on button. When you hold the tip next to or on to the wire you are checking, it will either stay green for no current or if the wire is hot, turn red and buzz. This is a must have item for around the house when checking your electrical outlets and connections. Stop guessing and go for accuracy. The pen is worth the money and works every time.

I had a outlet that was not working and I need to figure out which breaker to switch off to be safe and this worked perfectly. Also used it for my smoke dectors. I had to replace them and they are also wired to my house but I couldn’t figure which breaker to turn off but these identified the proper one in no time. love it!!

The spec says it’s supposed to trigger above ~50 Volts, but it’s got to be way lower than that. It does trigger on appliance control panel buttons (some but not all, even on the same appliance), laptop charger tips, even ones that are nominally grounded (or supposed to be) and even items on GFCI circuits. I’m not too worried, because if the leakage current is too low to trip the GFCI, it’s probably not a “real” indication on the appliances. That said, it does trigger on hot AC circuits and not on neutral or ground wires, and when a hot wire is de-energized it immediately stops triggering so I trust it’s really telling me whether a wire is hot, and that’s the important thing.

What a great tool to have at hand when doing minor electric work. Works great. However I recommend calling a licensed electrician if you’re not comfortable with outlet changes. If you want to experiment with trades, try plumbing. If you screw up you get wet. Electric can kill you. No im not an electrician.

This item was recommended by my grandson for doing electrical work in my recently purchased 60 year old home that needed some electrical updates. Very reliable

Not the least expensive option available, but felt like trying to find the least expensive option may not be the best strategy for measuring live electricity. Have used a few times and instructions were clear and use was simple. Compared readings to alternate version we already owned and readings were consistent and accurate.

A great tester and it works very well. I would definitely buy again

The device is easy to use and works well. No more guessing which wire is which. The builder of my house did not use only white and black wires when runners were in use. Also, I installed smart switches that require the master unit be fed by the power source not a runner. So this device is useful to me as a DIY.

I always triple check with electrical work, but this is a nice pen sized tool to keep you safe. No issues and a great price to prevent the “bite”

I really love this little thing – it makes me feel so much more confident that I’m not going to electrocute myself. I found out on my most recent repair that this does’t work on the low voltage of a doorbell though. It showed as off and then turns out I had the wrong breaker and when I touched the wires together they totally sparked. Had to go back and relabel the breakers and note that this is to be used for regular electricity, but not low voltage!

If you own a home, chances are you will need to see if a wire is hot or not at some point. Same thing goes with troubleshooting or rewiring outlets. This gives you both the tools you need from a brand you can trust for a very reasonable price.

As an electrical inspector of 37 years,This is my go to set of safety tools. One: you need to verify the circuit is energized for testing and – two: the GFCI function and correct wiring of the receptacles need to be tested using this plug in tester. It applies the rated fault to the device and trips it off at your pressing the test button. Very strong, easy to use.. A+ rating…
