We got this smart plug for our Christmas lights and it works great. We have several Kasa switches in our house and have been pleased with them all. The app is very user friendly and intuitive. This switch was extremely simple to add to the app and get set up. Most of the time with these devices they need to update the firmware on the first use, and it automatically prompts you when setting it up and takes no time at all. I like that because it makes sure on your first use the product is going to be as up to date as possible. Both sides of the switch are independently programable via the app which makes it very handy for multiple items to get power. What is really cool is that it doesn’t just have to be a set time on and off. You can choose to have the sockets activate at sunset or a set time. You can program it for different days of the week to do different things. It is extremely versatile and easy to use.We have it hooked up under a covered area so I can’t speak to its weather proofing, but given their reputation I would believe whatever the listing says about it. It is very affordable and Amazon usually has sales on Kasa devices as well. It’s time to upgrade your old light timer to something like this….you won’t regret it!

I product this recently to automate my outdoor lights. This smart plug is Matter compatible, which is why I chose this verses the other Kasa Smart plug with HomeKit support. Works seemlessly with KASA app. Setup was very easy. I also have this device added to Apple Home, setup was easy with that as well. The issue I have with this is it keeps disconnecting from Apple Home randomly. And the only way to recover from this is to remove the device and re-add. Device can still be controlled from the KASA app during this. This is a little bit annoying to keep removing and re-adding to Apple Home where all my automations are.I have reached out to TPlink support for this issue. With a few emails back and forth, it was concluded that I should update to the new firmware for the EP40M device. Not sure about the version# of this new firmware, because I already have v1.0.2. Waiting for a response from the support team on the specifics. Will update here once I hear back. Btw, the TPlink support was very prompt in responding to my issue.

I got a few of these to be able to control our outdoor holiday lights and the string lights on the porches. We previously had solar sensor timers that would come on at dusk and stay on for 2, 4, or 6 hours, however I set them. But because the lights were plugged in on different sides of the house, they received different amounts of sunlight and they came on and shut off at different times. With these outlets, I was able to schedule everything to come on at the exact same time, and shut off at the exact same time. We leave certain light displays up longer through the winter than others and being able to change the lighting schedule with my phone and not having to go outside to fiddle with individual outlets has been a dream. We leave string lights on the porches most of the year and I am able to easily change the schedule so they come on later in the day as the days get longer and we still have daylight until 6pm, then 7pm, etc.We have a rental property where we use Heat Trak mats to melt the snow and ice on the porch and I added an outlet there so I can turn the mats on only when it is snowing or if there is freezing rain.Although I choose to schedule our lights at the same time, each of the outlets can be managed independently. I will be adding one of these double outlets to our small pond to be able to manage the pump with one outlet and the lighting around it separately. These outlets have given me peace of mind and make outdoor lighting SO much easier to manage.

Got this for the Xmas lights outside. As a Wyze user, I got a little fed up with their products glitching and incessant advertising. So decided to try Kasa. I’ve been very happy. It was a breeze to get online, no firmware updates, no constant app updates, no connectivity problems. It worked flawlessly. Come this spring, we’ll probably put up a string of lights around the patio and use this to control the lights. Pretty simple to use and at a great price.

This smart plug worked the first time I plugged it in. Setting up the Kasa app was easy and it concisely led me through steps to connect my cheap A13 Samsung smartphone to the smart plug. Once I finished with setting up the app I went back into it and turned off plug outlet 1 and 2. I’m not sure why they came turned on. A minor safety issue. When I turned off the outlets I heard clicks emminating from the outlet housing. I like the LED indicator lamp for each circuit. The sheathing seems quite strong and thick, the outlet housing appears well made. The male plug head feels durable with the prongs 90 degrees to the cord alignment providing less stress on the plug when the cord is hanging down. I haven’t plugged my outdoor heater cables into it yet but something tells me the unions will feel snug and secure. I’m surprised thus far with inherent quality of the device thus far. One minor flaw though, the outlet covers seem a little cheap and not thick enough to remain snugly in the outlet.

The Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug is a sturdy, reliable device that works when you need it to and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.PROSWorks with Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings, and IFTTTEasy to set up with intuitive mobile appAffordably priced for two-outlet deviceCONSNo support for Siri or HomeKitNo power usage reportingShould you buy it?Yes. The TP-Link Outdoor Smart Plug is sturdy as heck, easy to set up, and offers two smart plugs in one device, and honestly, that’s all you need out of a product like this. It gets the job done reliably and I didn’t want to throw my phone through a wall while trying to get it to respond to Alexa and Google Assistant. For only twenty bucks, this is a solid deal, particularly given that comparable options are often in the “much more than $20” range.

I got this outdoor smart plug to use with my holiday lights, and it has worked like a charm since the day I plugged it in. It was easy to install and set up. The best part is setting up a routine with Alexa and then forgetting about it. Rain or shine, the smart plug has been turning our holiday lights on and off every day for over a month now without any issues (even in rain and snow). My only complaint is the same with all of the smart outlet manufacturers. I wish they would all agree on a singular app to use for connecting devices. I have three or four different brands for smart outlets and switches in the house, and they all require their own app for initial setup. It would be wonderful to only need one app to rule them all.

I bought this to replace a mechanical timer that controlled holiday lights. It works well and can control two outlets independently. That’s a great feature. The Kasa app is easy to use (for iOS, at least). If I can remember what I name things, you can control it with Alexa, which is nice. The only quirk is that power went out during the night once and when it came back, they defaulted to “On” rather that what the schedule would suggest they be. However, noticed this on the house camera and it was easy to turn them off with my phone.

I’ve used these for a couple of years now with no issues. Also have some others from similar vendors, but they all have issues with either Alexa, WIFI range, or switching off a outlet when other outlet is addressed. One is used run a 15 amp greenhouse heater plus a WIFI camera. The WIFI camera is only toggled every few months when the camera is hung. On another a 15 amp heater plus a string of 4 IR Heat lamps. Total is less than 20 amps, but other vendors models could only handle 15 amps total and would disable if both outlets were enabled a the same time. Easily automated with Alexa routines and voice commands. Easy to rename outlets with descriptive names. “LittleGreen Heater” “Green Heater 2” “Green Camera” for greenhouse devices. No issues with switches losing WIFI connections ever and they are over 100 ft from router, through several walls. App is easy to use.

Update (12/11/23): Found there is a newer version of the single wall plug, which offers energy monitoring capability. The newer model is KP115, released in Oct 2020; whereas the older model is HS103P2, released in March 2018. The newer plugs are more expensive, but I would pay the extra cost for the energy monitoring feature if needed.Related Products:Kasa Smart Plug Mini with Energy Monitoring, (KP115), ~ $224.4 out of 5 stars 14,686 ratings | 211 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LN3C7WKSummary: I am reviewing two similar Kasa (TP-Link) smart plugs with this review. One of the two white single plugs was DOA (dead on arrival), so I took the opportunity to open it up and inspect the internals. The 2-plug outdoor one worked fine.Initial Problem: The issue with one of them was the relay would click, but plug would not pass power. This occurred with both the physical power switch, and through the app; so the control circuit was ok, but the power circuit was defective.Observations (construction): Like most modern manufactured items, this one is a snap together setup, and once I figured out where the tabs were, disassembly was fairly straight forward (I will not be providing a step by step on how to open them). The construction is decent. The relay is a 200V and 16A version, and should be able to pass full power (1875W for a 15A circuit). However, I would not push the power limit as fire could ensue.Software Setup: After downloading the app (iPhone), setup was straight forward. It appears to only connect to a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network; however, with my phone on the 5GHz network, I was still able to control the device. Generally 2.4GHz has better range, and 5GHz has better bandwidth, so 2.4Ghz is the appropriate band for this device (and most IoT devices). Upon completion of setup, the app offered to update the firmware (which completed in less than 5 minutes). Setup was the same for both (the outdoor didn’t need a firmware update).Pros: simple setup; firmware updates.Cons: 1 of 2 DOA.Conclusion: At $13 for two, rating this 3-stars (-2 for the DOA, otherwise this would have been 5-stars). I also ordered a two-outlet Outdoor plug (listed below), which I am rating 5-stars.Related Products:Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug, ~ $164.6 out of 5 stars 13,373 ratingshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091FXH2FRKasa Outdoor Smart Plug, 2 Sockets, IP64 Weather Resistance, ~ $164.6 out of 5 stars 13,373 ratingshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091FXH2FR

I use this outlet to connect my room lighting to my Stream Deck. So I can push one button and all of my lighting for my stream will turn on at once. It makes stream setup/teardown much easier than having to go to each of the lamps and different controllers to turn everything on. I appreciate that the two outlets on this are independent, so I can turn on either one, or both if I choose. No issues with connectivity, it’s pretty responsive and although getting IFTTT set up was a bit weird, I haven’t had to touch it since I set it up a few months ago. I would buy again if/when I need it.

We’ve already got a couple of controller apps for the various smart sockets we have so I was keen to stay with a brand we already have. This dual plug is really easy to sync up to the app and works really well. Scheduling our holiday lights on and off was super easy. We already have another one of these plugs which we bought two years ago. It’s been outside all of that time and still works perfectly. A great product and an easy one to recommend.

Kasa’s smart home products are among the best in the industry. It is evident that a lot of time and effort is pit in to the design, development and testing of their products, as well as the Kasa app (note: we are using the iOS version of their app). It is utterly offensive when you purchase an amazing product and find that the company has put little-to-no effort in to their app. I’m happy to report that the Kasa developers have not let anyone down in this regard. Each of the Kasa products we own has been reliable and have never once failed us, and we’ve had several outlets in our home for ~12 years now. They are easy to setup and configure. They always (and I mean always!) stay online, and they reconnect after power outages without having to reset everything. They also integrate well with the most common home assistants like Alexa, Google, and IFTTT. Having the ability to group them in to categories and/or rooms allows you to synchronize the behavior of multiple devices. After the initial setup we used the included wire holders and screws (they also provide a wall anchor in each package for stone/concrete) to mount them under the waterproof receptacles in a downward-facing orientation (** Important: you MUST keep the sockets facing down to keep everything waterproof **). We have both of the outlets configured in a “Holiday Lighting” group, along with several other interior Kasa smart outlets. They’re scheduled to go on at sundown and off when we go to bed at night. They behave exactly as expected.Perhaps the only complaint we have has to do with the plug head. It is vertically oriented, which is the normal/expected configuration. However, if your receptacle is horizontally oriented it can be difficult to plug the socket in and close the cover on your [in-use] waterproof receptacle cover. This ended up being a minor issue for us, but we ended up making it work. Only we had to sacrifice access to the second outlet on the receptacle to do so. If Kasa made this with a rotating plug head you could orient it horizontally or vertically and avoid this altogether.

This Kasa plug is awesome, small package and clean design. This was a breeze to setup and integrate with all of my other smart home devices and apps. Both plugs can be set independently of each other and work well. Connection is solid even through a few brick walls and I am totally happy with this product, I am sure I will be ordering more of these when I find myself needing more!

I have used many WiFi lights and Kasa continuously works every time with ease! I stopped putting up Xmas lights to write this review. I pulled out the plug from last year, plugged it in and immediately it worked on the app. That would never happen with any other WiFi device!

Very easy to set up, Use them to control some security lights and my Christmas lights, I use the Tapo app to control them and there cameras can trigger them to come on, easy to group together for one touch control of them, Not sure of the Alexa integration, I just haven’t done it, My LG tv sees them and can control them, thanks KH

I have 7 KASA cameras, 4 smart switches, 4 indoor outlets, and 2 outdoor outlets, a total 17 “smart” items.I had a problem with the 4 smart switches (a momentary drop in power would deactivate them requiring an easy “reset” that could not be done from a remote location. I complained to customer support, and a firmware update corrected the problem. Customer support is very responsive. I highly recommend their products.

I have purchased 3 of these now to replace mechanical timers. The software is easy to use and flexible. I like being able to change on/off schedules from my iPad and iPhone. I use them to control a small heated birdbath, Christmas lights and a roof cable. Yup….we live in a cold climate state. I really like the two plug version.

I have a single outlet version of this plug that I used through the spring and summer for string lights in my backyard. The setup is foolproof, and I have no issues with it. So I decided to buy this two-socket version to use for my Christmas lights in the winter. It’s great except for one annoying quirk.Although I do like that you CAN schedule the two sockets independently of each other if you choose, for the life of me, I have no idea why there is no way to add a schedule to the group! There should at least be the option. You can group the two sockets in the app, and there is the functionality to manually turn the group on and off. But there is no functionality to add a schedule to the group, which is the whole reason I got this plug. If you want both sockets to operate on the same schedule (which I do), you need to schedule each socket independently. Not the end of the world, but it is annoying enough to take off one star. Doesn’t seem like something that would be too hard to program into the app’s software, and yet, that functionality doesn’t exist.Other than that, these smart plugs are great.

This is the first Smart outlet that I’ve purchased, and the set up could not have been easier! Only took a few seconds to scan the QR code and add it to our home.I’m using this outside for Christmas lights, so I added HomeKit automation to turn the lights on at sunset and off at sunrise, which also only took a couple minutes. If this product has any problems, I will update my review down the road! Today is day one, middle of November 2023.

It took a bit to figure out the setup. Took me going to support and chatting with Nico to figure out what I was doing wrong. He was able to point out the specific step I was missing in order to connect my smart plug. He was quick and efficient and was able to connect within seconds of his instruction. Just started using the plug tonight so no comment on that yet but support from Nico was awesome.

Shipping and delivery was great. Was hoping these would work as I used devices like this through Smartthings before but I gave up on that whole system. To my surprise, like most Kasa things, the connection was easy and hassle free. The device appears solid, no poor seals and broken pieces. Two rubber seals protect each outlet, the waterproofing seems good and each outlet can be independently named and controlled. This is my second one of these and they have worked well outside during a NY fall, let’s see how the winter goes.

I bought these for my Xmas decorations, but used them already for some outdoor lighting. Was easy to add the product to the Kasa app where I have existing smart bulbs and plugs. It’s great that you can control the individual outlets independently. Once setup, there was no issues with them connecting to my WiFi and the scheduling feature will be great for the holiday decorations…….Kasa is great.

I love all kasa plugs. They are easy to use and great quality. I have had these for some time now and they all work great. The app is easy to use and there are plenty of options like creating recurring schedules etc. I have this in Lutsen and use it to heat a mat at front entry to melt snow. It has survived the harsh north shore winter

Works flawlessly if you have a good Internet connection. Set it up once and forget about your decorations for a month. I configured the smart plug and our decorations are the only ones in the community that turn on and shine early in the morning making everyone smile. The plug turns them off in the night and turns them on in the morning. Two sockets let you adjust the settings separately. Great product!

This is exactly what I was looking for: two plugs which can be set as a group by Alexa and turned on with one command. I need it for inside, but it’s nice that it’s made for outdoors also.On the other hand, there was a sticker from Kohl’s and during set up, the Kasa app said that this device had a previous configuration and did I want to delete it. (Of course)Maybe someone bought it new from Amazon and returned it to Kohl’s when they weren’t happy with it, but I wonder. At any rate, it’s doing it’s job so far. I set it up with the Kasa app and then delete that app as soon as Alexa sees it. I don’t want Kasa sharing data forever.

Easy to set up and add to Home on iPhone, works every time, even after long periods without use or internet disruption. I tried a more popular brand previously that lost connection to WiFi regularly, defeating the purpose of a smart plug. This one works great, and at a competitive price.

I recently purchased the Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug, and it has been a game-changer for my outdoor electronic devices and lighting. is a fantastic addition to any smart home. Its ease of installation, reliability, and integration with popular voice assistants make it a standout product. While the build quality is generally good, a sturdier outlet cover and more advanced voice command control for individual outlets would be welcome improvements. Nonetheless, it has greatly improved the convenience and energy efficiency of my outdoor space, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to smarten up their outdoor devices and lighting.

Ok, so the integration with Google Home was hit or miss. I was able to connect it to wifi and to control it away from home through the Kasa App, but every single time I would try to integrate it with Google Home, it’d say there were no compatible apps. I went into the app and tried to enable remote control, and it either would be greyed out for selection or just not show up. After ages of trying, I removed the device from my Kasa app and resolved to return it as it was the last day to do so…then I decided to try again…I re-added it to the Kasa app and it just worked… It is as if it knew I wanted to return it and decided to behave. I had it running on the routine over the weekend turning on at night and off during the morning and it seems to be working fine now. That was the 4 days I had to return it. Thursday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Monday.

UPDATE 12/1/2023:Added 2 more starts to 4 star review. After multiple attempts on my own, I gave in a just figured it was not Alexa compatible (you can read how that went below). However, with no action on my part, when I pulled the Alexa App two weeks later, it was there. I can now add my Christmas lights to a “Routine” in the Alexa App.Still keeping one star in my pocket due to initial frustration.———————————–This thing works really great. Is exactly what the manufacturer says it is and does what is expected. My beef…and it’s a big one… was that connecting to Alexa was a big selling point but it does not connect. I have 33 devices for my home and use Alexa as a hub for control. The reason I bought the Kasa was for the advertised Alexa integration. The TP-Link website was no help as well as TP-Link themselves. Disappointing. Still thinking about returning. Just feel taken since it is not as advertised.

This works great if you have a signal close by.It works great with Alexa, and the Kasa app and pretty easy to set up.I had to move a Wi-Fi extender to that side of the house because I have old school stucco and acts as a faraday cage with the wire mesh support.

Ugh I can’t explain how much I love this thing! Extremely easy to install. You just connect it to your wifi and plug in. I purchased two of the Kasa Outdoor Smart Plugs and they are great. We beefed up our Halloween decorations this year by adding more lights. I wanted the different sets up lights to operate at the same time on a schedule. The Kasa app made it easy to set up the smart plugs and then create the schedule for each unit. Both are outside and have been operating perfectly. I highly recommend.

Fabulous! It saves me from formerly-frequent waterfall pump replacements that have been courtesy of marauding raccoons at night. It’s set to shut off at dusk. In the morning, I turn on while watching it from indoors to be sure it’s functioning properly.

I’m so impressed with these outlets. I’ve tried other smart outlets before but this is so easy to use and worked perfectly right out of the box. It was easy to set up and the app is really intuitive.
