The Autel PowerScan PS 100 is a great handheld diagnostic tool useful not only in automotive, but any number of low voltage service conditions.Unlike typical go-no-go testers the Autel will perform many basic multi meter and oscilloscope functions from checking an open circuit to powering a DC circuit to AC frequency and waveform and of course the go-no-go tests.Not having any service tasks since I obtained this nicely designed unit I just did some basic tests.One of the features is to provide DC to a device or circuit to test when the whole subject is off or dead.I tested the lights of my utility trailer using a portable jump pack and the Autel. Connect the ground to the common on the trailer and touch the probe to a terminal then press forward on the function switch and DC will flow to the circuit. One by one I tested the lights. This would be great for a tech having to test lights of any type of trailer in the yard. Using the common ground and the included extension cord not only voltage but resistance can be traced.To test the AC function I used my variac which I dialed down. Using the function button on the Autel probe I switched to AC and then touched the probe. I got a reading of the max/minimum voltage, waveform, frequency and duty cycle%.One item of note not in the operation manual is that the probe tip fits into a standard banana jack so any type of test cord could be used. This makes the operation even handier allowing the meter to be remote. For instance if a min/max voltage is needed the probe could have a spring clip test lead plugged in and attached to the circuit in question. This will allow one to have hands free operation while doing activation etc. I used a long test lead with an open banana plug to check resistance.In practice this tool will aid in many more trouble shooting situations but suffice to say I’m very impressed.Along with the function testing, the probe has two LED work lights and an audible tone (which can be turned off) plus polarity LEDs. A set of + – battery hookup clips and a 12V aux plug are included.The device uses an internal circuit breaker so no fuses are needed. In case of heavy use failure down the road, the function switch is easily replaceable.Bottom line: I like Autel products, having used a few before and owning their very good drone, this multi function tool is a versatile, high quality device that will not disappoint.
